Ive got the job of sorting h/caps out for our society, and i know society h/cap working out can differ........

Reason for this post is,a player had to pull out after 5 holes with a bad back and couldnt continue,so when working out everyones h/cap i left him as no change as he only completed 5 holes.
So for all society players, would you think this to be right or would you expect a 0.1 increase on ur h/cap,and also what would happen at club comp???

Since it is a society, you can more or less do what you want. In this case, I would be inclined to do nothing.

There used to be a rule that a minimum number of holes had to be finished for a handicap alteration, but I think that was revoked, so at a club he would get 0.1 (or 0.2) back.

Yeh,i was under the impression that you had to have played so many holes for ur card to count but not sure how many, but if thats been changed then i will keep quiet ......

As Ethan says, it's a society, you can manage the handicaps as you see fit. Just remember to make sure you apply the same logic and decisions to all the society members who require action on their handicaps. Downwards cuts if winnin or well placed, never really seen any society hcps go up ;)

I've played in works society outings many times, it's a good day out and as long as handicaps are reviewed regularly then there should be no problem.

I do remember winning an outing many years back where I won on countback from the second placed guy He actually played at the same club as me. Most folks had a society handicap of 3-4 strokes below their national handicap. this guy had 3 strokes added on to his. Had a word with the secretary of the society after that event and he was cut back to his national handicap for rest of the season.

All the societies I have been in the only reason handicap went up was to back 1 of the shots you got cut for coming 1st 2nd or 3rd there were no 0.1 increases.

Here is a definition of our societies handicap rules.

Handicap calculation explanation
Category 1 (5 or less) handicap reduced by 0.1 x number of shots better than std scratch
Category 2 (6 to 12) handicap reduced by 0.2 x number of shots better than std scratch
Category 3 (13 to 20) handicap reduced by 0.3 x number of shots better than std scratch
Category 4 (21 to 28) handicap reduced by 0.4 x number of shots better than std scratch

The standard scratch will be set at one point less than the person in fifth (fourth if less than 30 attendees) scored, meaning only the top five (four) and ties will have a handicap cut (i.e. if you win a prize, your handicap will be cut). There will be a ‘buffer zone’ where those equal to the standard scratch remain unchanged, with all other handicaps increasing by either 0.1 or 0.2, depending on the day.

0.2 increases are only for places 34 and below.
Those with incomplete rounds will not have their handicap adjusted if injured.
