So you think your Looooooooooooooooooooong

a discussion or a debate much like a forum needs all parties to be open to healthy discussion & debate & respect each others opinions even if the differ from our own .

....and starting out with "change the record".... "it's getting boring" meets that criteria?

You're 'avin a larf ain't ya?!

It's an interesting video which just proves to me that there are many ways to achieve the same result. I haven't a clue about swing mechanics and just rely on feel for my swing. I would for sure get even less accurate if I tried to copy their swings.

p.s. bladeplayer, you can opt to block JustOne's posts by clicking on the ignore button in his profile. Far better to do that than have a rant on someone elses thread. I have a few people on my ignore list, they don't know about it so no one gets upset. I don't know if JustOne is right or wrong but he can knock the ball way past me so there must be something to what he says.

hadnt noticed that till you pointed it out, his weights on his back foot then at impact- just shows you there are many ways to skin the feline
First time I've seen his swing for quite a while.

He seems to have toned it down (slightly)!

When he first emerged he actually leaped off both feet!

His shoulders rotate no more than 55° further than his hips... they've doubled that figure. It's actually impossible to turn your shoulders more than about 60° compared to your hips. I'm made of rubber and I can manage about 40°, maybe, on a good day maye even 45°... maybe.

The hips/shoulder relationship is an illusion which occurs by being bent forwardat the waist and the forward roll of the left shoulder with a retraction of the right.... basically he doesn't 'coil' any more than most of us can... it's irresponsible by not explaining properly what is going on as people could literally hurt themselves trying to get a degree of seperation that is actuallyimpossible.

in this picture they couldn't even get the 'protractor' straight... of course it hardly counts if you open your shoulders 30° to begin with.

If he had even 90° of seperation then his left shoulder (which is rolled forward across his chest) would be facing in the same direction as his belt buckle... it's well short of that. It's smoke and mirrors.

Here's a thing... if you can be bothered to try ... take something in your right hand and put it on the desk/table in front of your right hand, now stand up and turn 90° to your LEFT...feet facing left too... that object is now kind of behind you over your right shoulder... reach round your chest with your left hand and pick it up.... can you get it?

If you can then apparently you just got 130° of seperation. Don't let go of the object... stay where you are..... do you feel a violent force about to spin you out of control like a coiled spring... when you pick up that object is it about to fire across the room as you unleash the power of your turn?

Interested in your reply......

Lucky Denis Pugh makes his money teaching (though can't say I'm a fan of it!).

His swing is pretty much like mine!

Strangely, for a stiff old bugger, I can do that 'exercise'. I think, perhaps, you neglected to say 'keeping your hips stationary'. It would, however indicate that I can get more than the 60* of separation you say is the max!

Certainly agree that the 152* appears to be an exaggeration! Doesn;t seem to have any larger shoulder turn than loads of other tour players. However, to describe it as a total crock of sh*t is probably about the same level of exaggeration imo.

I think Johnson gets much of his power from his height (wider arc) and the sheer 'off the mark' (Javelin Thrower or Tennis Serve like) speed that he has developed and his 'flexibility' is part of that.

Don't really see it as irresponsible from the danger aspect (from the BS aspect probably yes) as I'm certainly not going to replicate Bubba's length of arc, though I'm always trying to get a 'full' shoulder turn.

Thanks... I was waiting for the usual well measured slagging off from someone - a pleasant and well received surprise, thank you :)

Anyone would think I post this stuff with my fingers crossed and that I don't actually know what I'm talking about. I should be used to it by now yet I kinda know every single thing I ever post is going to be questioned for validity one way or another.... damn, I wish I had that PGA qualification! ;)

I doubt that you got more than 50° at most Foxy as you need to keep a very close eye on just how much your hips rotate and also there's often a side tilt to the right involved which (rather like the left shoulder roll) can add a few degrees of deception.

If remember correctly there was a recent post (Maybe DarthVega) in which Titleist (MyTPI.com?) stated something like 55° of rotation was good... I'd even question that figure (because I'm like that) although they are much closer to the truth.

Put a tour stick through your belt loop and see what happens to your hips.

neither of them are the thinking woman's bit of crumpet. there isn't much going on between their ears!

Ok just did this and i can do it and mabe get a little further back with the left hand and there is a twisting effect but im not sure my abs and back muscles would thank me for it after a few holes.....Here's the thing....Its practically impossible for me to achieve that turn without my belt buckle facing in roughly the same direction as my left shoulder......

I can feel the power and the coil but it feels completely unnatural.

Oh and dont worry about the thread going off topic a little fella's....Thats what makes the forum have a character at times.... :)
