• Thank you all very much for sharing your time with us in 2025. We hope you all have a safe and happy 2026!

So who's bought new shineys for 2013 and why?

Added Cleveland Classic XL Custom to the bag to update my driver specs to my improved technique, worked a treat! My driver was fitted to my beginner swing and worked for a couple of years. I had another fitting and now I have never driven the ball better.

I also swapped out my aging MPT-10 wedges for the same spec Cleveland 588 Rotex wedges. So far a good move but I still need to get used to them, my technique slipped very soon after getting them so I almost had second thoughts but I soon resolved that issue and now they perform better than ever.

Went from a G20 4wood to a Nike vr pro ltd edition 3 and 5 woods.
New mizzie MP53 irons to replace the mx23s
Mizzie mpt10 52 58 wedges, reducing my wedges count by one to make room for the 5w and to reduce indecision about which club to use.
Think I have settled on the 910d2 over the ping g20 driver, though I had both already so doesn't really count.
Putter is staying right where it is.

Wow when you write it down you notice how much has actually changed, almost all of it! How did that happen?!
At least it was all on good deals.

A few new shafts just because of a case of gibboitis, and a vp1 milled Cleveland putter, that's it.

Depending on the next two round depends what shafts stay put and which go, but that's my bag finally settled,

Only changes may be the odd shaft swap here and there in my quest for a lower flight

Well the timber is sorted, but really like PX iron shafts, these maybe be next on the shopping list,

I've had a complete clear out and rationalised my bag.

Irons, putter and wedges are unchanged however my Nike VR Pro has been changed for a TM RBZ TP with a regular Matrix HD6 shaft. The driver has been excellent and yesterday afternoon I drove the last hole normally 285 but closer to 245 off the temporary tee for a nice birdie, (not a big drive by some standards but nice and straight with an easy swing).

Other changes were my hybrids. I dropped my stiff shafted Yonex's and changed them for regular RIP shafted 3 and 4 TM R11 rescues. I did try the RBZ's and hit them further however they weren't as accurate or straight as the Rescues.

Overall I'm very happy as the driver was £129 and the hybrids £69 and £79 in sales. The hybrids are straight and long and the driver has been a revelation. All I need to do now bring my handicap down.

Having said this, after a range session yesterday I think the G20 is going back in the bag. I took both and wasn't swinging the driver my best and the g20 was both longer and straighter for me on what was an off day, and on an off day I want all the help I can get.

New additions since the good weather are......... Everything except the irons and putter

New Ogio sultan bag - old one was on its last threads
New iCart trolley in white - old trolley was from the dawn of man and god only knows how it kept going
New Driver - the nike I used before had the most annoying noise when the ball come off the face and was sold as at the time I wasn't using a driver on the course
3 wood and hybrid - just to match the driver
Wedges - a deal I couldn't refuse - sold 2 wilson s and replaced with 3 TM's for almost the same cost

Now everything is changed since October 2012

Irons - Ding Dong, the Nikes are gone - Cleveland CG16 Tours in Satin. Got an Awesome deal, brand new 5-PW plus 588 wedge for a princely sum of £209
Putter - Taylormade MA_81 Ghost Tour, although the MD Drew Killarney will be lurking in case it misbehaves. The shapes are exactly the same as each other but again I got a good deal.
