So what are you listening to at the moment?

I bought David Gilmour's Luck and Strange some good some mediocre

It made me decide to re-listen to Rattle that Lock to remind myself why it was album I only ever listened to a couple of times.

Might make a play list of better tracks with a couple from Rattle.

I really enjoy a good bit of storytelling in a song and so really enjoying the recent set of videos of Gilbert O'Sullivan playing live new versions/rerecording of some his greatest songs.. And unlike many of his era is his voice not still in great condition. What's in A Kiss may not be one of his better known songs but like all his stuff it's got a nice thoughtful message - and nice accompanying guitar work.

Alone again, naturally.
Poignant.

I have Amazon music on my phone in the car. Its brilliant to just ask for random songs from your life over 6/7 decades. This week Im hooked on Highwaymen live in Nassau Coliseum 1990.
I thought "JC, over thirty years ago!"
Then realised I think nothing of calling up songs from 50/60/70's.
By random association, cooking in the kitchen earlier, I got Van Morrison with PJ Proby !

Just sat in our front room where my music listening lives, and randomly stuck on a Buddy Holly ‘best of’ compilation released in 1971 that I picked up somewhere for nuthin - most def. not my usual listening. And I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying it. Maybe it helps that the longest track on side 1 (of 4) is 2’12” long. The longest track across all four sides is 2’46”. Brief and to the point. Was thinking of charity shop for it…now think I’ll keep it.

Just had a little read about him. All tracks were recorded 1956-59, and he died in that air crash age just 22yrs…pretty darned impressive what he achieved in such a short life - he basically set out the way for the Beatles, Stones…

…and now playing ‘Raining in My Heart’…love it.

Well now you need to check out "The Buddy Holly Story" with Gary Busey as Buddy. I wasn't struck by the choice of Busey but he won me over.
In '57 they played the Apollo in Harlem where no white artists had appeared. The owner hadn't seen them. That scene in the film, where the curtain opens and the audience go dead cold silent, is gold.
I won't spoil it.
Check it out.

I love that film…I agree - just great. Heard BH and the Crickets stuff plenty of times over the decades…and was a bit meh about it…50s…dad’s era stuff…that’s why I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Though tbh I didn’t realise (or I’d forgotten) that he was only 22 when he died.

Ah, from your post I thought that he was a much earlier generation than yours.
Yes, his influence is not appreciated enough. The eventual response from the Appollo audience was brilliant.
