Hi Guys....
Just wondering about peoples opinions on swing speed and tempo....Whats the best way to groove an even tempo without slowing your swing speed...my speed averages between 108 and 115 mph i understand this is probably quick for a high handicapper but im fairly accurate 7 out of 10 time with my target...id just like to make the swing look effortless ...
Has anyone got Tips or drills or even opinions on this subject.... Many thanks..

When I started I was told to take a club more than needed this makes you take a nice even tempo swing anything full and you would be too long. You could try that and see if it still works.

Just make sure you keep the number of a good Chiropracter close at hand. ;)

That's a very fast swing to be dealing with.

I'm trying to focus on a smooth swing which keeps my hands in front of my body as much as possible. You have to swing and turn your body in harmony to get a good tempo but it certainly works.

Well i dont really feel uncomfortable with the speed as such.....i live in ireland and played alot of hurling so the speed doesnt intimidate me as such but id like to make it look effortless....My club distances maybe slightly above average but i know my limits with them... its just when you see the likes of vijay and ernie swinging id love that fluidity...

I think that unless a certain shot dictates you give it more, you should try and work on a smooth 3/4 length swing and use timing or one more club to get the results you are looking for. I swing too fast and too long and that has led to problems with overswing (lateral movement and reverse pivot) and timing issues (not enough time to transfer and make the transition from back to down swing) which causes me to get too active with my hands and loads of hook shots.

With the help of SC I can choose exactly what club I need to get the right distance and swing much smoother and hit more controlled shots with a tighter more repetitive swing

Thanks homer....Feel free to correct me if im wrong in saying this ...i hope iv picked you up right.....My distance between my clubs is roughly 10 to 15 metres....i hit my 6 iron between 150m----160m this means i should use my 5 iron at this distance and control the swing for more accuracy....

Read an article recently that said the best results from a variety of swings comes from an even tempo. They videoed swings from loads of different players and found out that the best players swing at the same tempo - speed was another matter.
3:1 was the best I think. They found that from counting the number of video frames from the start of the backswing to impact. The swings came out at 21 frames back 7 to impact or variations on the 3:1 ratio.

The author suggested the counting - 1 , 2 , 3 on the backswing and 4 to impact.
I tried it and it did seem to feel better but more practice is needed to see if it actually works.
