Even me! Lost 3 stone + now!

Anyway, it seems to me that the trend is well and truly in place. Everything's getting lighter, especially in the shaft.
Many stock steel shafts are now 100g or less - fine for slowish swings and slowish tempo but not exactly what's required for faster ones.
It makes Custom fitting for the shaft especially important if you are a faster swinger or have a quickish tempo. And even that doesn't always work.
I've been fitted for a lightish PX95 shaft in the past. I had real trouble feeling what was going on with the club, my fairly quick tempo played havoc and as a result my iron play went to pot.
I'm gradually moving back to heavier shafts. The Mizzy DNA gizmo gave me 6 iron numbers of 84, 6, 3, 4, 3. 84 mph Swing speed, tempo of 6(1 being slow, 9 being fast), 3 toe down, 4 kick angle and 3 release factor (1 being very late, 9 being very early). It spat out DGS300 as a first choice, a shaft I've used to good effect in the past, and this is what I'm gearing up towards.
I've been playing PX 5.5 flighted for a while, a bit lighter than S300 but I'm even finding them a bit light now.
I've acquired a 6 iron with the S300 in it to test and it feels so much better than everything else. I'm hoping heavier and slightly stiffer will straighten me out a bit!
Anyone else gone light on the shaft but now want to go heavy again?

I have the same problem with light shafts, mizuno numbers were 96mph 9-1-4-1 and gave me x100 as first choice but using px6.5 as the J40's come with these standard. Nothing wrong with so called old technology and the s300 and x100 shafts are the most used good amateur/pro shaft ever and are proven winners.

I went heavy and am now going light!

Heavy provided a degree of protection from poor transition and other weaknesses in my swing - 20 years ago that was a better practical solution that it is today.

I went light for a test - back in the days when Nippon 950s were 'light'. Disaster! Didn't have a clue where the ball was going to go! happy to be back to heavy and a tad stiff!

Might be giving a light, stiff-ish Driver shaft a go though. The light Reg I tried definitely didn't work for me.

I am not a huge fan of light clubs, having grown up with heavier steel shafts, even in drivers! I also remember the super light fad of the 80s when clubs in the low C swing weight range were briefly popular, and D A Weibring appeared at The Open with a golf bad with Fetherlite on it and wondered why people laughed.

Anyway, I find the light clubs had to control because I don't know where they are at the top of the swing and tend to get too quick and snatchy with them.

Got the UST recoils in my Apex Pro's albeit 110 grams.

Love them.

That's quite a chunky weight for graphites isn't it..?
I've heard the Recoils are the Mutts but if I go graphite I can't have a go at Fragger and his "Grandad" shafts.....

I think so Ian, but they feel fabulous. So good on knock down shots as well as full. Fully recommend them.

Get them, Fragger will only be jealous ;-)

I've just put some Nippon Modus3 120's stiff into my clubs, 114g and are fantastic, they've just released Modus3 WV wedge shafts, I'm now looking at the WV115 at 122g for my ICY wedges.

I can't stand clubs that are too light whether it be shafts or heads.

Congrats on the weight loss. 3 stone is a big old drop

graphite is the way forward maaan :)

Your problem is that previously you were swinging around 40lb of flab that isn't there anymore, that has to add 3/4 inch to the length of your shafts,

So cut down your shafts, go graphite and see a pro to relearn your swing and all will be well.

That's himself royally screwed up for the next 12 months 😎😄😄

Dont mention DNA to me, got fitted for DG XP115 S300, the other 2 were PX5.5 and KBS Tour S. Went for the DG as they came out best on the day but always nagged away that they were to stiff for me anyway dint a second DNA during the week with a different fitter and the same result, he said he wouldn't have fitted me for any of them knowing my game. Anyway we tried KBS C TAPER Lite R 105 which made a big difference then DG SL R300 ,what a difference so much confidence in hitting my irons at the range. Im awaiting an email from Mizuno tomorrow as i buck the trend of there fitting tool. DNA WAS 76 8 4 9 5. With the KBS i was swing at 82 mph very easily.

Glad for you that you are happy, but there is no way that the change of shaft alone added 6mph to your 6 iron swing. Something else was going on those two days that resulted in the difference in suggested shafts.

Also, swing DNA is only meant to generate a starting list of likely shafts. Then a fitter, taking into account the players preferences and feedback, advises the final choice. If you knew you didn't like the feel of the XP on the day you should have said something.

I don't care for XP myself, but the PX 5.5 and KBS Tour S are similar flex, so at least it is consistent. The initial data would put in borderline between R and S, but 82 mph would put you in stiff if you still had a tempo of 8 that time.
