Playing at a local course for the 1st time on Saturday with a mate of mine who's a member - Weather looks sunny (but cold). Looking forward to it immensely! Hope I can swing the club like I have been doing at the range.
Just remember to play to your limits and you'll be fine. I play off 9, and i take a couple of friends around my course. They used to try and knock the ink off the ball and that was getting them more frustrated. So i introduced them to the handicap system and how the index works, and how playing to their h/caps would instantly give them more confidence. Convincing them that 120 yards straight was always better than 250 in the s!*$e! Now they're off 21 and 23 respectively, and thats since last June.

Just back in from possibly the best practise session Ive had for a long long time. Hit about 60-70 balls, then about 100 pitches of various lengths, 1/2 hour chipping and 1/2 hour putting then out with one of our pros for 9 holes. Shame the course isnt a bit drier but otherwise as enjoyable as it gets :)

Cheers for that - I should re-iterate, it's only the 1st time at this particular course, not on a course in general. But I get what you mean, I've started playing to my strengths more of late and taking my lumps when I get in trouble which has led to infinitely better scores.

I cannot believe how good the weather has been to us this year (apart from the wind). This time last year the country was under 2 feet of snow and everyone was miserable. Only had a jumper on yesterday when I played and it's January. This global warming lark might be a boon for us hackers.

My club has been trialling the idea of staying on the proper greens for frost as there seems to be a train of thought that suggests there isn't significant damage done. Given they are in bad nick with moss anyway there is anrgument to say they can't be damaged any further. To be honest I hope it carries on for this weekend at least so we can play the winter knockout on a full course and not rely on it being a glorifed chipping and putting comp on temps. Could be a bit parky on the practice ground at first light though

Forecast was for Sunny Spells, light winds and dry - BUGGER THAT!!!!!!

Raining when we tee'd off
Brief glimpses of the Sun until the 11th
When it Hissed it down in Biblical proportions
Followed by a cloudless sky to the end.........

Bloody weather forcasters - couldn't see that thumping great storm cloud eh..?
Peasents...

Beautiful day, sun on my back which always makes the swing feel that bit looser and hitting off turf. Perfect.

Very happy with the results, working hard to eliminate my lazy "hip slide" through impact and concentrated on "snapping" my left hip back through impact and getting the weight through properly. Apart from a handful of snap hooks which was just poor timing I left the practice ground very happy with the progress. The ball was going well!

I went to the range too, was trying to slide my 'lazy hip slide' more and slow down my hips... hit 5yd push-draws for the entire bucket, with no snap hooks.

You're right it is lovely when the sun is on your back, especially in January :)
