Slow play does not seem to be a problem?

Our 4 ball was great, there was some banter, sarcasm and at time even some good golf shots, but 3 of us just seemed to be happy being out and enjoying the walk, and one seemed to be taking it very serious. Now that player made it pretty clear from the off he was hoping to put in good scores for the win and i admire he's attempts and concentration for doing so, but the other 3 me included were more happy pulling off the odd good shot and not being stuck in an office or at work.

I, for one don't know what you lot are on about. Myself, TXL, IMurg and Richart took a leisurely 4 hour stroll round before settling in on the balcony with a cold drink watching you all knob your second (or third and fourth as was sometimes the case shots into the green on 18.

I think Paul sizing up his chip on the last, and his subsequent celebration when it went in, adding half an hour to most peoples round.

I hit a hybrid which came in low, thunked into the apron about 3ft short of the green, and stopped instantly. I guess if I had hit it shorter, then maybe it might have run up. If it had hit much higher up the green it would be straight through. I don't tend to get much height with my hybrid or woods. If the hole was shorter, then it would take an iron better than a wood. There were quite a few of us, and only two held the green, which for a par three is unusual to say the least.
Got a 4 for one, so it didn't exactly ruin my card.

Not referring to you OS, but I didn't know rounds were taking 5 1/2 hours. That pace of play makes me think some would not have enjoyed themselves.

I may be partly to blame for the difficulty of greens. Choosing to play the day after the clubs biggest competition, there was a good chance they were going to be difficult. A lot of the pin positions I had never seen before.

Judging by the results the low handicappers coped best, and I apologise to those that really struggled. In the members competition the winning score was 139, one over handicap over 36 holes. Just shows how well Gary (Region3) played to get 36 points off 7/8.

I am surprised that anyone playing in a forum Meet should take it so seriously, and just wants to win. I hope it was not one of my guests (member). As most know if there was no banter I wouldn't bother.

I can understand if you're having a total shocker that the course may not have given you anything back, but even as a 19 handicapper, I wasn't setting the world on fire and still managed to knob round with 29 points and as you can attest, didn't hit any world-saving shots! Other than my driving the rest of my game was pretty weak. Irons were nearly all almost fat or thin and I had the touch of an elephant around and on the greens (as JammyD can confirm as stood on the 12th tee, he watched my pitch from 20 yards out on 14 go rolling through the back of the green and followed it up with "Nice shot Jon!" ) but I could not have enjoyed myself more.

For me, these days are about the company and the banter not playing good golf! If the golf happens to be good, it's a (rare) bonus.

couldnt be any better put. Me and murph had a chat along these lines and both agreed that its about meeting like minded golf obsessed internet weirdo's that we speak to and banter with on a day to day basis. For me it was about meeting people that i have a laugh with and under standing their personalities more. Take rickG, we all know he's a new club addict, but after spending a couple of days with him i also now know he's a sex obsessed pervert.

Rich the course was great,the greens were fast but by no means unplayable,anyway what would be the point of making pin positions easier just to speed up play.
A hard course is part of the challenge.
The other thing is i wouldnt have seen Bob 4 putt from 12 ft and that made my day.

Sadistically I liked the fact it was set up almost as hard as it could be. I did feel you almost had to lag anything from 10 feet and more but assumed everyone else was having the same grief.

I've played a few of these things now and never ever tried to win a) because I'm not very good and can't anyway and b) it isn't what the day is about. Yes its nice to hit a few good shots and get the odd par or birdie but if you have a few bad holes or a mare round it doesn't matter. You are playing a different course, usually cheaper than a normal green fee with some online mates

It was a slow round yes but it didn't matter as we effectively had the course for the afternoon as a visiting group and all were focused on enjoyment rather than a brisk round before nipping off to see your mistress..

Taken in isolation though, a 4 ball round should be faster.

As for the 15th, I hit my best iron there all day - 198 yard 4 iron like a laser to the middle of the green. Unfortunately, there was a downslope after the pin and I bounced through. Shame. Good fortune shone on me though as Jammy and JustOne helpfully marked my ball in the long grass with a large log. They made it even simpler for me to find by starting a fire on top of the log, enabling me to be guided to my ball easily by following the plume of smoke. Thanks boys - most helpful.....!

Snelly your most welcome , we were trying to speed up play.

I blame all the groups in front of us for the pace of play and we were 4th off. We were always waiting on every shot on every hole. If the first group finished well ahead of the 2nd group then there's your problem , the 2nd group Ricks lot who were just jabbering on about new clubs and sexual perversions.

Personally the pace didnt upset me because my golf was consistently inconsistent and we were having such a laugh at snaphookedwedges' putting and justones' Bubba swings that it didnt matter.

I have to be honest though and say it didn't feel a 5 1/2 hour round. It was hot and humid anyway and so no-one was that fussed about rushing as it was quite nice to stop and draw breath. It is a tight driving course in places and there are a few tough holes in the front nine which I guess sets a tone. It certainly wasn't the same as a bad Saturday at a muni and to be honest it was actually quite easy to switch off between shots and then focus again when the time came.

We were definitely playing slowly but at no point would it have made sense to let the group behind through as we were always up on the group in front of us. The times we did fall behind a bit when looking for balls etc. and considered letting them through we had caught up the group in front by the next tee!

5 1/2 hours does sound long but I think in that format with the toughness of the pins and the heat it could never really have been that much quicker.

I did find it tiresome especially at my age. I need to keep moving or I start to sieze up
Camberley was perfect, 3 hrs 45 for a 3 ball and that included hunting for Rick's drives every other hole

When you see somebody on the first tee addressing the ball for absolutely ages and pulling away from the shot and waggling his club 11 times before clattering it into the trees then you know you're in for a slowey

You lot sound like the society from hell, the society I'd hate to get stuck behind. But as long as you were all having a good time in the sun, plenty of banter, and having a laugh, then I suppose that excuses the desperately slow play. 5 1/2 hours, I think I would have lost the will to live.

Next time you get stuck behind a slow society, don't moan, just think of this day.
