Just checking out the course map on our website, playing a round in my head lol.

would be interested to hear views on this blighter - our 1st hole at Aylesbury park. Newcomers tend to play it without fear. The more you play it the harder it becomes - for me anywayas I have a few mental scars. As you can see its not very long at 385 yds of the whites but you have a tricky tee shot to start with.

To carry the ditch/bridge is approx 190yds, but you need to be accurate with the landing if your going for it as there is a ditch on the right and left.

In comps I just lay up, but that in summer has caught me out as well as its flat all the way to the ditch so anything over hit will run into it. The ditch itself doglegs - so if you go right of the bridge you can carry it easier.

If you go left of the bridge the ditch runs in the same direction as your shot.

Its a real bugger and tough start to the round.

Edit - there is a second bridge on the right hand side not clear in the first image I uploaded - If you can draw it over that bridge thats the line I reckon. Never done it successfully myself :)

If its a still day Id probably look to hit a solid 4 iron with a draw, any wind against and Id be looking at hitting hybrid, looks like it would set up nicely to my eye

For me it would be a 3 wood down the right (my 3wood always draws ) hopefuly be leaving me 155 ish to the green , smooth 8 iron , (7 putts :D) hopefuly 1 or 2 putts to get started well .. tight little buger aint she , you could do alot of harm to your score early doors ..

I have played there a few times and really dont like that first shot, especially as I have a penchant to block right when not fully warmed up  It takes a good shot to make the fairway but I would always go with 3 wood or driver, laying up on a Par 4 just doesn't seem right to me!

Too many 7's 8s and 9s have resulted from hitting driver, so happy to make 5 on this bugger and move on and try to par the next 2 - par 3 and and par 5.

A Pull hook leaves you on the 18th fairway with about 150 to the green over a tree, seen a few pars rescued from that route.

Can't see why laying up short of the ditch is a good idea... that would leave a 200+ yd second into the green, which is not what you want down the first. I'd just hit driver or 3 wood and see where I ended up. Should make the carry unless inot a strong beeeze.

I've played it once and hit driver over the ditch. I suppose if I played there every week it might get into my head a little, but first time and with no consequences I didn't think about it for long.

Thinking about it more now, I'd rather risk the driver off the tee than have around 200 into the green if I laid up, and I'm not confident enough that a slightly miss-hit 4 wood (especially into the wind which I think it was that day) would make it over.

I reckon an underarm lob with a softish ball so that it stops short of the ditch then I'd change to a distance ball for the second shot, a full overarm throw with a bit of run to chase up onto the green. Hopefully 2 putts later and I walk off with a par.

Alternatively, a 3 wood off the tee down the middle with my customary very slight fade should comfortably clear the ditch leaving a short iron. Obviously I would attack the pin playing the hole this way and most likely walk off with a birdie ;-)

I'd be setting my driver out to the right of the bridge and drawing it back into the fairway. That's of course until I stick it in yhe ditch a few times when I might think about laying up but with a 190yd carry it would be a reluctant layup.

I tend to hit 7 iron, 7 iron leaving about 60-80 yds and try and get up and down from there.

If I play the front nine twice I hit the driver second time around- its alot easier as you have had 9 holes to settle in and get the driver going.

Depending on the wind it looks perfect for a little drawn rescue/hybrid, leaving approx 150 in for a steady par.

I need start think like some of you lot first thing that came to my mind was driver aim right at green and rip away. I would lower my score if I thought like you guys glad i joined now learning a few things here and there.

Depends on confidence but go for it with driver/3w regardless, if confidence is up hit down the proper fairway, if confidence is low hit down the other fairway (left side) and hit wedge over the trees to the green.
