Slat walls & improving acoustic .. any suggestions

Thinking of putting some acoustic slat walls behind tv. The brick wall behind the TV is my home office, so could with some insulation - though this is not a big problem. The sonos for the TV is forward facing. However, the room itself is an open plan living + dinning and it gets very noisy when the Mrs is making dinner. TV volume is on full to drown the cooker hood. and we struggle. There is not enuf sound damping. The Slat walls are not going to be very useful because they are going to be other end of the room.

1) Any one has acoustic slat walls and are they any good? any recommendations on how to best use them?
2) Happy to take suggestions on improving acoustic in an open plan living + dinning
