SkyCaddie direct sync

...Sad.

Stil a good device, but hampered by bad software unfortunately....

I have just acquired an SG5 so didn't use the software prior to this recent upgrade.... but the software now is a classic example of bad design. Most people seaching for a course to download will know the name of the course and to have a system where you enter "Cawder" (my club) and get no matches is a joke. I think I eventually found it by entering UK somewhere and then zooming in using the map thing.

Why do companies do this sort of thing with software? I doesn't happen too often in other areas of business: a new Ford Mondeo will, in the main, be better than the old one.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

I had much the same problems.
The solution I eventually used was to open Caddie Sync from the desktop, then connect the GPS. It should say that it's not sync'd or that it can't find your GPS until you tell it to sync.

(I have a feeling that I went through this process more than once until it worked.)

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Yes, It is listed as SkyCaddie Desktop in the programs list.

You did download the correct flash file for your model of skycaddie didn't you ?

Thanks - I thought it would be but was worth checking. Pretty certain I downloaded the correct one - I had several goes at it, marking the SG2 checkbox each time. Ah well - have to see what Skygolf say if/when they get back to me.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Just loaded Leatherhead. I went into caddysynch on my desktop, logged in and then had to synch the device. Once that happened I could search for the course and downloaded it in the normal way (and deleted Lydd from my active list). Very easy.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Got to say I am off to Bamburgh on Sunday so added this to my skycaddie and I'm not sure what the outroar has been for....took me only a few minutes and very easy!

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

I've just added a couple of courses up north onto my own SC. Found them on the site no problem and downloaded no problem. Now if only the golf was that easy.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

I have to concur with dodger I couldn't see the problem unless it happened as they introduced the new caddysynch system. I have to say the finding of the course (name and location) was a pain and I'm sure the old system allowed you to specify a country and then search alphabetically which was easier but other than that no problemo

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Even the course search looks to have been tidied up a bit. I was looking for a course in Moray, typed in Moray UK and got a whole list of courses in that area no problem.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Mind you in saying that my course is now for some obscure reason under Goswick in the County of Galashiels??!!
I will be dropping Steve from Skycaddie a line to see if the old system of finding a course could be incorparated into the new system but I'm pretty sure it is all Yank driven.

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Logged into CaddieSync today to find that it had changed again. I think they're tidying it up the search but there are still peculiarities.

If I enter a County and select 'County, England' from the menu I don't get the map, I get a list of every course in England (mind you to the Yanks, England probably is a County).

When I went on at work, without logging on I got the map

Re: SkyCaddie direct sync - more queries

Well hurrah - after fiddling for two days, I've now managed to get the SG2 to "talk" to skygolf.com. No idea what the problem was but after a seemingly endless cycle of downloading the CaddieSync software, trying to Sync, failing, uninstalling, and repeating it eventually worked. It just kept getting stuck at the point where it said "communicating with Skygolf.com" would just hang and not communicate.

Having broken the cycle & got in, have managed to swap round a course or two on the thing(eg Royal Ascot in preparation for "the day") and wasn't too tedious compared to the old DirectConnect. Seemed a bit more awkward to find courses than it used to be but I dare say there's a knack to it that will come with practice.
