Sky/Sky Box help please

Cool, ye, no particular interest in HD, never been or seen a TV that I thought looked better with HD.

Theres huge differnce between SD and HD. Perhaps they didnt actually have a HD feed, as for sky, tell em you are leaving, id be surpised if they disnt offer you the world to stay

Once you have HD you won't want to be without it, lots of programs are like chalk and cheese once you have it. We have HD in the living room and SD in the bedroom... if there's something on late I go downstairs to watch it and fall asleep on the sofa

Al, buy a HD box from ebay, phone sky to get your card assigned to the box. You don't need to pay for the HD channel pack unless you want sports in HD (it is worth it IMHO) but you still get BBC, ITV, C4 etc in HD for free. plus the newer HD boxes are better, internet connection, bigger hard drive etc.

In my experience., Sky is usually willing to do a deal to keep customers. My HD box failed and I called and was invited to spend a lot of money, so I said I was off and they immediately offered a new box and an engineer came out to fit it the next day.

Just tell them your leaving Alex and going to bt or Virgin, they will get you a new box and if they don't just go to Virgin who will give you a brand new box for free.free had box I think with Virgin.

This. It happens every 18/24 months for us, go through the same procedure every time - you need to upgrade to HD for £5 extra per month (I pay £75 already) or we can get you a call out for £60. Tell them you've been with them for 10 years and that your not prepared to pay it. They came back and said £30, still refused to pay it and said I'll go with Virgin. Engineer is coming on Sat to sort our problem for free.

Its a hassle going through it everytime but it works, I also got £7.50 knocked off sky sports for 6 months too whilst haggling with them.

Having digested the conversation I ended up having with retentions(I was not expecting to be put though to them as I just wanted my box fixed replaced): She was saying that I was on a discount at £46.60 and that that discount that I has negotiated some time back was about to come to an end and I would go back to £51 or something. She then offered me £49 and a new box and HD.

Yesterday afternoon I was just not in the mood to hear any more sales crap but I guess I am going to suck it up.... I guess I just have a bee in my bonnet about sky as a company and wanted to get it fixed/sorted without having to talk about the rest of this. I guess every member of the team is a sales person.

Thank you for your input people. I really do with there was a genuine competitor to SKY.....

Not a bad result that mate.

Oh not really.... 36 mins on the phone to them... Turns out she offered me a deal that lasts 8 months on a 12 month contract and that would leave me 4 month at £64.... A LOT more than the £46.50 I pay now.

I have ended up with 10 months at £52 a new super duper box and then he suggested I call and tell them I am leaving after after paying one month full price.

This is not want I wanted but they are the only winners in this game. I just dont have the time to grind it out. It will be a good service but I do properly hate this company!!! I really do wish there was a competitor!!

Just out of curiosity on your original call, how much were you prepared to pay to get your white box fixed/replaced?

Nothing... I considered that in order for them to keep charging me the then £46.50 they would need me to have a box of some kind.... That said, this is not my first rodeo and I had considered they may charge me £50 or so for a recon...

Yeah they have kind of created that culture over the years, so no surprise that many now expect it of them as standard, although I would say that not many companies would repair/replace foc forever (gas board skinned me a grand some years back to replace a boiler even though without a working one they wouldn't get any future payment for their gas service)

Just got off the phone to sky, my bill was 120 per month, although that was the full package with 3 HD boxes, high speed broadband, phone and calls, movies, sports including BT, kids channels etc, pretty much everything going.

Got it reduced to 85 per month with a range of discounts across the various elements.

5 minute phonecall, no negotiations, told them what I was prepared to pay otherwise I would cancel.

Pretty good service if you ask me.

My bill was going up this month to £76 wife saw the letter with the amount and went mental about the cost told me to cancel it. After a chat with her well a argument I agreed to cancel it. 2 days later after cancelling I phone them back and with not much hassle now paying £42 a month fixed for 12 months and the wife is happy with this. I don't really know why she went mental as I pay for it

I have... lets see what happens... Am I being unreasonable?... I really just want what I already have.

No not unreasonable at all. A new customer could sign up tomorrow and they'll get an entry deal paying less along with a nice new box. You've been a customer for a decade and are basically subsidising the new customer. Tell them to stick it until the retentions department comes up with something better.

you know when something happens and the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut. That's what has happened. I'm happy!

Sky man came yesterday - we now have a new dish, sky plus HD box and new remote, only draw back is that we've lost all our saved programmes from the last 2 years.
