Need some advice please ?
I've got the Wilson Pi5 irons, bought them in the Spring.
I've been thinking about getting them custom fitted to suit me, has anyone here done this, did you notice any difference ?

standard set up clubs are right for 80% of golfers....don't believe the hype. Have met several 'fitted' players boasting of this and that, they dont hit it any better or score any better than they did with standard clubs.
Spend the money on lessons instead.
All the scratch and better playes I know have off the shelf clubs, all the fitted players play off at least 10 handicap...desperately trying to find some way to improve and retailers see 'em coming alas!
'It's the Indian, not the arrows' as Lee Trevino once said.

Most people i know including my self got the fitting free!!!

It's purely psychological Squire - believe you'll hit it better and you will - it's called confidence.

MVP - I doubt it was truly free, bet you paid full RRP on the clubs and some. Be honest now!

Personally i didnt, cant speak for others tho. I know that when i get my 695 MB irons after x mas it may be different!

Any way in golf there is an ideal posture. which is different for each golfer because of size and shape and height. Fitting works for me.
If at impact you iron is striking the toe of the club more often you need a more upright club. and if it hits the heel you need a flatter lie on your clubhead.
It is a fact that it will help not just 'Hype' otherwise fitting would not be available at the level it is.

(PING for EG. Do not charge you to adjust your clubs so its not a money spinner!!!)

In my lesson last night me and my pro discovered that with a 3 deg upright and a 1 deg upright i hit the heel first. Because of the way i swing. Now that i have a swing plane change , when i have accomplished the changes the fit will show what lie will suit as i will be making contact correctly. So yes have lessons first So the Pro can fit you properly. its no good getting fitted then changing your swing.

Everyone i know is who is a competent(Not saying B/man isn't) golfer has been professionally fitted and found it successful. Those who are just weekend/bank holiday golfers just have any old club which is fair enough.
Its not hype or pyschology its Mathematically proven get the club on target to heely and to toe-ey will reduce your consistency.

On top of that fitting is to do with grip size and shaft.
If you swing fast- you need stiffer shaft
Hit the ball too low- you need lower kick shaft (higher loft driver?)
if you got massive hands you'll want a bigger grip.

At the end of the day a pro will explain this properly to you, its not always by the book. its what you feel comfortable with too. I will add to this another time as im going to bed. well tired.

ps. this will tell you more

How is your game with without custom fitted clubs?

If your playing with with them of the self why do you wanna shell out your hard earned cash on something you dont need?

If you are hitting the ball all over the shop first of all ask yourself are the pi5 irons the correct clubs for you? maybe you should have got the di7 instead.

ive had my mx 19s a few wks and swear by them being fitted.
with my old set i regularly hit it right.i also have a problem of striking the ground slightly before the ball which with my old set which struck toe first would twist the club sending it right.
with these clubs it has just dissapeared.granted the clubs are awesome in their own right and probably their doing a lot of the work but the contact with the ground feels more central.to me anyway.

htl, I am fairly happy with my iron play, its my putting and round the green which lets me down. Like us all, I'm just looking for any advantage I can get. If getting fitted saves a stroke or 2 on average its money well spent. Yes, the Pi7 club is maybe too good for me, but I like a challenge, and they aren't as unforgiving as might be expected. Certainly won't be changing em

Have you got the pi7 or pi5 irons? The pi7 are a thing of beauty! And i could excuse anybody of wanting to use them even if they were not the wright club's for your game.

Why dont you just get a video lesson with a local pro with an eye for custom fitting this will tell you what the score is.

Well done Slaighty, work on a slow smooth swing and you can hit what you want.
Looks like I'm getting well beaten on the fitting argument, if I was 5'3" or 6'3" I'd be looking into it but as I'm neither and hit a decent ball I'm not fussed for a 1/4 degree flat here or half cm longer there, I don't believe it will affect the club golfer.
I did the measurements on Pings website and came out standard on length, loft and lie - that is good enough for me. As for flex I have been playing long enough to know what flex shaft to play.
