shortest par 4

Our first hole is a par 4 and is only 257 off the whites. Tricky though, most are happy to get a par. Surrounded by bunkers, drops off down a hill left, right and severely off the back where there's another bunker then a wood. Even hitting the green in two, you can be left with a tough putt.

Then followed by a tough 220 yard par 3.

We have one that is 274 from yellow or 289 from the whites. its a slight leg left, but going for the green in one is fraught with danger. I have got on in one and eagled it before, don't go for the green anymore, nice easy hybrid from the tee leaves a wedge in.

As i said in a post about course length yesterday, its not the length, its how. Like the one at West Hill, is it the 12th? 288 yards from the white, but in my opinion thats quite an easy hole, bombers can go for it and as long as you are straght you are fine. Did i mention i birdied it on H4H day after driving to the fringe?

Torvean by any chance ? Seem to remember some really short par4s there when I used to play it many years ago. It was our local course when we were up working at the Raigmore Hosp. Many an evening spent at Torvean

I thought notional cut-off for a par 3 was 240yds.

We have a 269yds par 4. Green is completely behind and hidden from the tee by a copse of very high mature trees, and green is heavily bunkered all round. Big boys occasionally go for it 'over the top' when playing 4BBB - I'll occasionally have a go hitting a high fade as trees are slightly lower LHS. But very risky due OOB close right and close behind green - also easy to lose ball in rubbish under tress if you don't clear them,

It's our SI 18 hole - just play an easy 7i off tee to be short of fairway bunkers down RHS then wedge in - or 5i (risking bunkers) and pitch in. But somehow it's often never that easy.

My home club for years was short and had several holes of that ilk.
The par is irrelevant because it is addressed in the SSS and the CSS being less than par.

Our 12th was 150yd through winter to take the new bunkers out while they were being built. Makes the 250yd par 3 at Forres look a monster

Short does not always mean easy , Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer both design courses with 2 short par 4 on each 9 , they are risk and reward holes , but to be honest the reward is just a birdie most times and the risk is a double bogey ....................EYG

I wasn't bragging, it's a poor hole. Worst on the course by some margin, hardly any landing area and a green too small to be hitting woods into.

edit - quoted wrong person

Short doesn't have to be easy. They tend to have tricky greens or hazards that need to be thought about. I love them. I can't drive more than 250 on a good day, downwind down hill so unless they run fast I can't get there. Sadly the days of hitting the 3rd, 5th, 16th at Wimbledon Common off the white are long gone!!!

I wasn't competing, just pointing out that a 150yd hole played as a par 4. And now that I think about it, the hole before is c. 125yds par 3

Have two at ours that are drivable - 280 yard 3rd and a 260 yard 17th - both surrounded by danger

the shortest par 4 i played was a little over 200 yards (#9 at Hradek, Czech Republic) but unless you hit a perfect draw around the trees, over the deep bunker and stop it on a very small green it is a genuine 2-shoter. better a mid-iron off the tee and hope for an up-and-down for birdie

At my local club the 1st is a 210 at bes par 4 t. Green is kind of tucked away up a hill behind some trees, so very hard to hit in one, usually end laying up and then pitching on as taking it on and missing it will probably mean a lost ball. So I think a great example of a very short par 4.

Also there is a hole that is about an 8 iron from the yellow but 230 from the whites, and for some reason that is always down as a par 4 on the scorecard and on my skycaddie. It doesn't half help my skycaddie stats as according to that I've never done worse than a bogey on it, with a few eagles and plenty of birdies.;)

Had a couple of 280 yard par 4s at my last club. Both doglegs, 1 left, 1 right.
On both you had to drive over the OB to make the green - carry would have been about 220-230.
Plenty of trouble around the greens too.
Some used to go for it - but get the drive just a little wrong and you're in trouble.
It made it almost too risky to go for it..
