shortest par 4

was out walking the dogs across a local course to me last night and noticed that there are two par 4 there that only measure 266 and 269 off the whites.

do you think that's too short for a par 4?

whats the shortest par 4 you know of?

on our winter course they moved one of the tee's but didn't change the card.... 168 yards SI7 :rofl:

That's a legitimate par 4 in my book. It would take driver to hit the green for 90% of golfers so making it a 3 would be unfair.

We've got 2 par 4's that are downhill at about 285, but neither are particularly easy to hit with small well protected greens.

They are short but it depends how well protected they are. Well positioned bunkers, run offs etc could easily make them a 2 club hole for even the biggest hitters unless they want the risk and reward of going for them.

We have a short par 4, drivable but with plenty of protection to make it risky if you miss the green. I've drove it once with a wee breeze and a nice bounce helping but i usually lay up to be safe.

I reckon a short par 4 or even 5 can be just as interesting and difficult as a long one if they are laid out well.

The 6th at Mitcham is only about 240 and downhill. It's slightly protected by a small water hazard in front but even that is fairly easy to shape around and there is plenty of room to the right to play for a chip on. Having said that's it's probably slightly too difficult to be a par 3 but a very simple 4.

Denton golf club has a par 4 off the Red tees that measures just 184 yds. The reason for this is that there is a ditch that runs right n front of the green.

Our shortest is 322 and SI 18, but with a huge tree middle of the fairway 80 yards or so from the green.

Our par 4 SI 1 had a large section of fairway as GUR late last autumn, so to protect it the tee was pushed way forward so everyone could clear the area off the tee. It turned a 420 yard par 4 into a 220 yard par 4 that a lot of guys were getting 2 strokes on in the winter Stablefords!

A 266 yard par 4 is too short?? Really? I could never even hit GIR on there so I'd definitely say par 4, not the hardest perhaps but certainly not a par 3

I have only played there once and I could only hit the ball about 160 yds back then, so I didn't, now however I might give it a go.

At my home club we have a par 4 measuring 270ish from the whites. A small green well protected with bunkers means only the most accurate of drives gets on the green so don't see it as being too short.

Played Hurtmore in the winter and one of their winter tees resulted in a 150ish yard par 4!!

Hersham Golf club 11th is 245 off the whites. There is a ditch that runs about 20 yards in front of it. First time I played it I smashed my hybrid onto the green but missed my eagle putt on the low side.

Hersham's 14th, 15th and 16th are also pretty short ranging from 314-320 from the whites. It is a very short course.

Someone has already mentioned the Mitcham par 4 but there is a second that isn't particularly long. It's the 9th I think, the one with the rail tracks on your right. I've hit that green in one before but also missed my eagle putt by an inch.

I think those are the only courses where I have driven the greens.

The Ashludie at Monifieth has back to back short par 4s - 13th is 259 yards and the 14th is 252 yards - The 13th has a serious plateau green - probably 15 feet up and is long and narrow - anything not in the centre is going to end up well off the green. The 14th is tight with gorse right down one side and nasty rough on both sides

I've driven the green on 7 of our holes that are par 4s. Some of them need the wind in the right direction of course. The shortest is 261 off the whites and is slightly downhill though we are in the process of creating a tee box further back.

One of the council courses up here, Lochore Meadows, has 2 par 4s measuring 282 and 288 off the whites.
From what I remember they are both downhill with very little to protect the greens.

Even better it's a 9 hole course so you play them both twice

Abbey moor golf club near me has a par 4 which measures between 248-281 yards depending on position from the whites.
Using my mates gps it measured 227 yards to the middle of the green from the yellows the other day.
Its the shortest par 4 I've ever played.

Hurtmore GC has a 235 yarder off the whites. Only eagled it once.
