Why do supposedly water proof golf shoes then have holes punched into them?

I have a pair af addidas like this, and my Ecco biom hybrids too. I wore the eccos this morning, and flipping heck did my feet get wet. They have sewn the tongue in, to provide a waterproof barrier to water coming in that way, but then punched holes all over the upper. Daft? I think so.

Ok, they let your feet breathe, but then they need to if the shoe is full of water.

bet the holes aren't supposed to be in the waterproof layer...

I have Eco streets that aren't waterproof - and they don't have holes :) (but their not waterproof either)

It was raining really hard today at my place and my feet were soaked.

Love my Ecco shoes but now know not to use them if it is chucking it down.

Shame I did try to get the gor-tex ones but they were out of stock and I went for the hydromax assuming they would be waterproof enough

I've got FJ AQL's and it rained for my whole round today. Feet bone dry. They've been awesome shoes so far so will defo buy FJ next time.

I have addidas shoes, Ecco, footjoy, churches, Nike and Stubart Darren Clarke. The Stubart are water proof so far, but being leather soled, are not worn in the winter. The nikes are water proof, but get grubby quickly. One pair of addidas are not bad, one (out of 4) pairs of footjoys are not bad either. The rest? Rubbish.

I've got last years cell fusions, their still waterproof 18 months on. Only orobken I find it my feet sweat a bit in them

I did have a pair of Stylo's many years ago that kept the water out... However, they were made from 'man made materials' so didn't 'breathe' and consequently you still had 'damp' toes...

My dryjoys keep my feet dry on most occasions but every now and then fail miserably... Mostly when the puddle(s) turned out deeper than they at first appeared...
