Blimey!!

The sodden ground would have offered little resistance to keep those old trees still standing!

Shame

A few less trees for me to contend with in their Seniors' Open. It is a superb course and I hope that the uprooted and damaged trees are all that they have had to contend with.

Yes, course is closed while they deal with 400 downed trees. Notts Union is asking for other clubs to offer free rounds to Sherwood members.

They will never be replaced, such a shame to see a course or indeed anything in this country go through such devastation. Oh well we will soon have fracking to look forward to, that'll stabilize everything won't it Mr Cameron? By the way, I wonder where you have all your money in shares ?

Wow!
I guess they have to check many of the other trees as well make sure they're not going to drop a branch ?
Could be closed for a while

I understand that they are going to be closed for a month as an estimate. Dreadful and I hope it doesn't ruin a beautiful course.

If I was a crow ad be there in less than a mile from where I live. Re the sodden ground helping the trees to go down am not too sure that was much of a factor having spoken to some of the lads who are members there. Probably some of the clues are in the trees snapping in two. Hence the ferocity of the wind.

I spoke to one of the lads who played that Saturday morning into early afternoon and was sat at home when it started thunder and lightening. He said it was nowt out of the ordinary. He lives 1 mile crow flight the other side of the golf course from me.

that night he got a txt saying the course was closed "due to extreme weather" cutting out the expressive adjectives , he thought that someone was messing him about.

by all accounts for those that were on the course when it hit were scared witless. This mini tornado was one of three or four that hit the mansfield/ shire brook area that afternoon.

I mentioned to me man that the loss of these trees would surely detract from the course and he said for the last few years they have been removing trees to help turn it back to a heathland course, of which the wind would become a factor. but this has just horrendous.

the Strange thing is that obviously the golf course name is Sherwood Forest which is situated in the heart of Sherwood Forest, but I have not heard a single comment re any devastation of the forest itself. It seems that is was very local to the course

I must live not far from you and I was playing on that day close by and I had to run for my life when the lightning came. Proper scary. Heard some trees came down in the car park at Sherwood Forest and landed on some cars. On that afternoon there was a tree down blocking the lane where I live, but it had been hit by lightning as you could smell the burning when I got there.

Yup I live at forest town and used to caddy at Sherwood Forest when I was 14 yr old, 37 flipping years ago. If I knew then what I know now I would not of stopped and started a paper round. Bloke who told me re problems at Sherwood told me he would take me there next month for a round. Oh well.

i didn't know re request of Sherwood asking other courses to let there members play. Am at norwood tomorrow for a comp so am gonna open me cakehole and see what were doing to help them.

working at thoresby pit, the mentality is a bit well dark. Anyway the lads have been winding up the Sherwood Forest members and telling them they will have to play at Sherwood Forest B course next door. It's not gone down well and understandably so.

Christ, I have a customer whose factory is right there, nightmare.

Wheres the factory beezerk coz am sure there been none affected round here. Strange thing is when it kicked off down here I was up in seahouses, getting txt messages re the weather

Vale Windows up on Warren Way, didn't even know there was a course right behind it :o
New Century on the other side of the course as well by the looks of it.

Well it's a small world because ave got vale windows in me house and very nice they are as well. The course must only be 1/4 mile tops from the factory as are loads more factory's but am sure that have been spared such is the luck or bad luck of where the tornado hit.
