Sharpro golf grips

Not wanting to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, but this caught me out once so maybe some others aren't aware either...

Grips come in 2 core sizes (the hole in the middle), 0.58" and 0.6".
Most steel shafts are either 0.58" or 0.6" butt diameter.

If you put a 0.6" grip on a 0.58" shaft, the grip will feel very thin.

The reverse is also true Gary.

If you put a 0.58 core on a 0.60 shaft the grip will be 1/64" oversize when installed.

Aye, and I guess some people will do that intentionally.

I just mentioned it because a few had said they thought certain grips were too thin.

They do, I'm one of them

I always build my grips up to 1/32" oversize. Buying a 0.58 core means I use less tape to build them up :)

so should i check my shafts before ordering or just take a punt on the 0.60

I'd check first. The shaft manufacturers web site should tell you, or Alex could if you have orka irons.

If you get it wrong the difference feels much worse than you'd imagine it would for the change in thickness.

In a thread about regripping clubs a while back, somebody queried if you would even notice a 1/64th difference in grip diameter. I pointed out that this would make more than a 3/64th difference to the circumference of the grip, which is what you have to wrap your fingers around.
