When the Titleist 909 drivers came out, I tried one in Florida in 9.5 degree, with a stiff Voodoo shaft. It was a beast, and I didn't want to give it back. When I got home, I thought I'd get a c/f to see if there was anything better available. So off to their fitting centre.

On the launch monitor, the 9.5 head with the voodoo shaft was about the worst combination I could have picked. Way too much spin, too high launch, no run out, etc.

I ended up with an 8.5 degree D2, with Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff shaft. This had all the right numbers. Sadly, in the real world, this was so unforgiving it was untrue. It wasn't monster long either. So I sold it.

I bought an off the rack Nike driver, 9.5 with stiff Axiv core, and this has been great. Until it died just before xmas.

While I try to get this sorted, I have borrowed a driver off a mate. Nike VR STR8fit, 9.5 degree, stiff Voodoo. Once again, I am hitting this really well (provided my usual snap hook is behaving). So well that I was outdriving a friend of mine yesterday when he is always longer off the tee than me.

Not sure what this proves, but it doesn't convince me that c/f is the way to go. It may show that the day I was c/f, I had really unrepresentative swing, but then that's not useful either. All this stuff is so specific, and hasn't helped at all.
 
I think you'd also have to bear in mind things like the heat and humidity in Florida which will contribute to skewing some of the numbers. I have had C/F and bought off the shelf and like you I'm not convinced. My Tp's were a ridiculous price and bought untried but I was always going to make my money back (and probably more that I paid) anyway. I do wonder though if I'd gone C/F on the I15 or Mizzys I tried at the back end of last year whether they would have helped me hit the longer irons better than the stock shafts (which I couldn't hit) and which would probably have seen me buy either make
 
It's been said before but it's worth saying again...

You'll benefit most from Custom Fit if you have a repeatable swing. That's a no-brainer.
Trouble is, with most of us, if you looked at 5 swings you'd see 5 different swings. We're not repeatable enough to get the most out of it.
There are certain things like getting the right shaft flex that make it worthwhile though.
 
I got fitted for my irons but when it came to my woods, and I normally use the same guy all the time for my clubs, just gave me a stock 909 d2 with the voodoo shaft and it has been THE best driver. Was customed fitted for a driver cost a fortune and unless I swing out my shoes is rubbish.

Shows the benefit of using the same guy I suppose.

Were you swinging out of your shoes when you were fitted, or was it the same as normal as far as you know?
