So when the rest of the field raises the issue, what then?

They let them play, they finish 1, 2 & 3 having broken the rules. Do you seriously think the bloke finishing 4th, looking at the pot of $1.5 million & a 2 year exemption, is going to stand there & applaud or highlight the breach?

The real reason they won't disqualify them is the the Tour will take them to one side, read them their fortune and they'll all trot along to the first tee in long trousers like good little boys. If they're going to wear shorts it will be by negotiation, not demonstration.

40 years ago, I'd say quite a few of the pros would take that view and there might be plenty said about it. But most people were still struggling to make a living back then so would definitely be motivated by money, these days everyone's a millionaire and doesn't want to be seen as being a bad loser or getting into a dispute that might upset fans or sponsors, or potential sponsors.

How many other pros were massively outspoken about Patrick Reed shifting the sand in the Bahamas?

There were a few mutterings from Koepka, but in actual fact very little was said despite the fact Reed won well over $1 million in that week and the next tournament he played (when many might have expected he'd be suspended).

What difference would it make; the Tour had penalised him so his adjusted score stood. So they can talk all they like, but he ain't getting disqualified as the infringement had been seen and dealt with. Hardly comparable.

I know a Pro who was talked to a few years back because he hadn't shaved and was apparently asked if he needed a shave or was starting a beard, by a tour official.

Once upon a day when golf was played by likes of Harry Vardon - golfers were advised to wear a jacket and braces - as both jacket and braces gave better feeling of compactness through the swing. Belts were just not good enough. Wearing shorts with braces and a jacket - now that just wouldn't work.

Who says you can't wear shorts, jacket and braces? This guy is rocking the look. Maybe Martin Kaymer should try this at the German Open.

Of course they would DQ them.
They can't just break rules they don't like. They wouldn't be allowed on the practice ground before they'd even hit a ball to start with.

Players probably aren't making such a fuss about it because they don't feel strongly enough as a majority, but that's guessing, who knows?

It will come, probably soon, and yeah everyone will wonder what the fuss was but they have to go through the correct process to get there.
They didn't DQ Tiger Woods in 2000 (ish) when he turned up in a round-neck Nike t-shirt with no collar though did they? They don't DQ the guys who wear hoods or those trousers with the gathered bottoms so they look like joggers and expose the ankles. I'm sure it's just a matter of time now until the boundary is pushed further to allow shorts. Maybe taking the lead from those gathered trousers they should just wear gradually shorter and shorter trousers by an inch every few months to catch the authorities unawares.

I reckon Rickie Fowler looks like a pedal pusher kind of guy, he could carry them off. He could be the man to start this.
