I have dug out my old (18 months old) business server to sell (Dell PowerEdge T100) but I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything on it which could be sensitive so I fired it up yesterday.

It has a Windows Small Business Server 2008 loaded and I found all my old folders along with loads of personal pictures I want to save/download and then delete.

I have been able to open and read all the info on the server and look at the pictures but it doesn't offer me any options to save to disc or anything like that. It also won't delete any folders or their contents although it offers me the option to do so!

I have booted it up on its own independently not through another tower/pc, is this the problem why it won't let me delete or download anything? Does it need to be linked to another computer tower to save and delete anything or should it still operate on its own?

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

You need to have somewhere to copy the files to. Like an external HDD or USB drive. Once you've got your stuff off ide do a full format of the OS drive before I sold it. as simply deleting files does really delete them at all. it pretty easy to retrieve files that have been deleted...

Cheers, I'll find a stick, see if I can copy over the stuff I want and then do a full format, will that keep the programmes (windows small business) still on it though?

Do you have the original installation disk for SBS?

No, a company supplied it all into my business some years ago, I'm just selling some of it now since I closed down, I'm told the server could be worth a few quid, obviously I want to remove personal stuff on it but keep as much of the OS on it as possible to be more valuable to someone.

Ide personally wipe the Hard drive and sell it just as a piece of kit with no OS installed. Let the buyer source there own. It's probably not really worth that much now.
