As an aging golfer with a very slow swing speed I am considering trying senior shafts.
I realise I will have to try a few but has any wrinklie on here got advice on changing? That is where to start.
My pro is excellent and will get me clubs to try, however I did stop in my tracks as I left his shop yesterday, his final remark was "perhaps we will try some ladies clubs"!!!
Not sure if he was joking or not but I will take any advice.
Not too much stick guys.

Forget the ego and find the shafts that suit you best!

Seniors shafts are often actually more flexible than Ladies btw, just a tad heavier!

I only play stiff (and heavy) shafts because anything softer and (particularly) lighter and I wouldn't know where the ball was likely to go!

Thanks foxholer.
My ego disappeared many years ago,!
I was the first guy at the club with a 15º driver.
Interesting about the shafts.

It's all about what works for you, ladies clubs tend to be soft regular with a shorter shaft. Grips are thinner too. I only know this as I bought a set for HID, honest. Having said that a good lady friend of mine plays with a mixture of stiff and regular shafts and she's off 5.

Do you know what your actual swing speed is with a driver?

Everyone knows that the older you get the less stiff the shaft is.... sorry couldn't resist :D

Seriously though use whatever works best!

Hi delc,
Not been checked lately but I would imagine low 60's at best.
200 yds about best distance with driver.
A very stiff lower back restricts my ability to turn well.
Will start this season off 20 hcap, a tidy short game helps but the greens are getting further and further away from my drives.

I'm 61 now and I started using senior shafts around 3 years ago, I found I started scoring better straight away, last summer I was only 1 shot from breaking 80 something as a 18h/c I thought I would never be able to achieve .

Im not long off the tee with my driver around 200-230, but have my driver shortened to about a equivalent length of a 3 Wood, I don't miss many fairways and this has also helped my scoring.

I thought mine was getting bad when it was measured at 77 mph! Used to be about 95. My driving distance has gone down from from 260 to 210 yards, and I am starting to find long par 4's out of range in 2. I too have a rather stiff back and reduced flexibility in my late 60's. I have changed from stiff to regular shafted clubs, but haven't yet gone senior flex! :mmm:

Thanks delc.
I may experiment once we get some warmer weather, my pro regards me as a challenge!
I do have a few years on you (77) but just want to maximise what I have got ,I love this game of ours.

Just do some yoga and you'll regain the flexibility.... I had to slow my 71 yr old Dad down today but that was so he could get directional control

Back problems made me go down the A flex route
And as Imurg said I'm still getting used to them.

A low swing speed doesn't allow that "kick" to happen , so coming down to floppies from regular, should allow that to happen.

they have made me competitive again, have to concentrate on tempo and not swinging too hard.

But I've beaten him 5 times so far this year whereas I didn't beat him once after May last year :)
