It is up to the club and competition organiser.

For Pros it is 50, where I play it is 55 and some clubs in the area are 60.

I turned 50 last Feb and started to look at Senior Golf.

Its 50 for Professionals and 55 for Amateurs ,
However amateurs can enter pro events between 50-55 as I entered Senior British Open Qualifying last year.
Apparently the governing body's are considering making it universally 50 across the board.

Really? I thought that was part of the gig ?.

I've only been able to play in 2 but both have been off yellows I'm pleased to say. Very disappointing if they were the exceptions.
Yes really, some don't like their courses to be too easy for visitors.
I've played a few where the white tees were as far back as they possibly could go.
I've actually complained at 2 local courses. One was an over 60s open, the 1st hole needed about a 160/70 carry over water surrounded by trees with no bale out option.
The other needed 170 yard carry over rough just to reach the fairway, with OOB on the left .

England Golf define it as 55 currently though they are proposing to reduce it to 50, which I understand is not going down well with the counties. My club is 60 as are a number of clubs in this area, so seems strange that the governing body are looking at going the other way.
