Senior Flex Shafts, advice

I have serious back problem which required me learning to walk again and found that turning to a more flexible shaft helped but I did have to reduce my swing speed and only use a 3/4 swing. Gave me the confidence required to know I wasn't going to end up on the floor howling in pain.

I also binned the hybrids and went for a trusty 5 and 7 wood and have been reducing my handicap ever since.

In all though I think it's about confidence, once you have that back you most probably could carry on with what you have.

Seems sound advice to me! Especially the bit about 3/4 swing. When I 'tested' light shafts, I found that if I swung 'normally', I had no clue which miss would happen, so heavy shafts apparently suit me best. The same would apply to softer ones - at least for me!

Do whatever you can to get back  into the game you love! Find a way to make it work and if settling for a less powerful method works best, then that's fine. Practice the short game and you will more than likely end up a better player anyway!

Make sure you get one of those ball-lifters for the end of the putter for Christmas!

Now where did I put that Ban Hammer :) :)

You can borrow mine :D

Especially the ball retriever on you putter, and remember to bend your knees when you're placing your ball marker on the green and replacing .

Played yesterday and this time borrowed a Callaway XR driver and 7 iron both with A Flex shafts and was very pleased with the results, Booked in with Alex from Orka on Wednesday afternoon to have a session to confirm the way forward :)

Just had a session with Alex from Orka at their new plush bat cave.
Did some figures with a 6 iron ,average swing speed was 65 mph 4000 spin and 145 yards run out . But most were pushed right and would have landed 25 yards right of the target.
Then onto the same club but with an A flex shaft, quite a whipy feel, but immediately felt different, swing speed up to 76 mph , spin 4300, distance 160 yards . But more importantly straight down the middle with a tad of draw.

Did similar with hybrids and other clubs with the same results, better swing speed, better spin and longer and straighter.....what's not to like :)

The only club not getting re shafted is my putter :)
Clubs should be ready on Saturday :)

Awesome! Were you at EM Golf? Nice there hu!

I take it from your comment that wedge shafts got changed too?

Sounds like the right shaft, but I don't think you'll get 160 yards out of a 76 mph 6 iron on the course. LPGA players hit a 6 iron with around 78 mph and get 152 carry.

Even so ......I reckon a shade under 150 carry, and if there is 10 yards run out, then he has other technical problems. This time of year you are more likely to get a small hop back.

I'm guessing it was inside on a launch monitor and setting to favourable conditions

Yes it is at EM Golf, near Toddington, just off the M1
Very nice setup there.
Aware of the settings, I was more interested in the differences between the different clubs than how it will actually transfer to the course, as I will have to re do all my distances in any event

What it illustrates is the need to get the right shafts fitted for you , and if you have a medical issue or are just getting older, don't be proud, go get fitted properly
