Seized vertabrae and secondary muscle spasms....no golf for me.

OUCH.....Huge Sympathies from me , Ive just returned from a back injury myself
Ive had a Disc slightly displaced, ( slipped disc ) just below neck, causing severe pain between neck and inside right shoulder blade, also rubbing on nerves and causing 'Pins and Needles' numbness in right hand/finger tips
Ive been recieving Physio for 3 months now, and things are on the up, having recently completed 1st full round in ages, Without any probs the next day
I too ignored the signs, the pain, etc....when this problem 1st started and kept playing ( oct 11 ) which is probably the reason for longer recovery period.
Only stopped playing when I could barely get outa bed the next day....!!
Anyway, take it easy, and when u do return, Id advise 20-30 balls at range or practice ground, couple of times per week for 2-3 weeks, then build up to 9 holes per week, and a practice session, for 3-4 weeks, before stepping up to a full round
This is what I did, and was advised -- to take it easy at 1st -- BUT not before I foolishly rushed back into playing a full 18 at the 1st sign of improvement ( in dec 11 ) and paid for it heavily, as after that 'stupid' round of golf I never hit another ball for weeks
So, Take it easy, Good Luck, and.........Be Patient

P.S. HOMER --- I too have a rather STUNNING Physio, dark, slim, early 20's, working on my back too, which Obviously DOES HELP you not think about the Pain whilst she is Manipulating your painful areas, what a stroke of luck

It is obviously some kind of pre-requisite at the entry stage. We have some real stunning physios at the the hospital too so its clearly not just in private practice.

Great to here of your progress.

Had back issues a while back - and neck is a bit dodgy after several motor accidents too. Edinburgh Chiropractor (Canadian) sorted it out really well. Sent to hospital for X-Ray and problem identified. She was also a manipulator rather than a violent crack-er. Cracks did happen though.

I have more faith in properly trained Chiropractors than MDs for spine issues. Medical profession seems to operate too much as a closed shop for me. I can remember when they were absolutely against Acupuncture. Not sure I'd fancy having needles stuck deep into my neck though, no matter how hot the physio was!

Hope the progress continues.

I had a slipped disk last summer, Like a knob i kept trying to play while on strong pain killers. A back spasm put paid to that and was laid up unable to move for two weeks on Doctors orders.

Spoke to a pal who's a GP in EnglandShire and suggested ice and stretching and not rest. I was fine in two weeks.

Appreciate the kind words lads, it's been a very long 4 months and I'm itching to get back out on the course but realise that injuries like this take time, not missing much though, mats, temporary greens and rock solid fairways not to mention now about 6 inches of snow!

Can't say I was a big fan of having to have accupuncture but I appear to have responded to it quite well so I'm happy to continue with it.

Unfortunately my hot physio's contract comes to and end this week so only one more session with her before I'm being palmed off on some bloke called Scott....all of a sudden I'm not so excited about my treatment. I shall make sure I enjoy my last session with Rio.
