Going to look at a car tomorrow. Its a second hand fait punto 3 door with 20k on clock. It 04 and available for 1400. Its seems good value possibly too good to be true

What should I be asking the guy and what should I look out for when test driving it

I know hew haw about cars so any tips would be great

check online for prices for that make/model, 20k seems bloody low for an 04 plate, I dont do much mileage but my 54 plate c max has done 26k in the 4 years I have owned it.

If its an old duffer who owns it then fair do's as may just have been used for pootling to the shops and back :)

if you think the mileage could be suspect check for signs of wear and tear like mentioned above,a good sign of this is also the drivers seat bolster.....

also ask if there is any proof of mileage from old mot certificates and if there is any service as this will have the mileage written down aswell.

i've owned a 52 plate fiat punto 1.2 8v for 5 1/2 yrs now and it's been never ending problems, pretty much everything has been replaced.

a problem is usually the windscreen wiper linkage system,i'd ask if there has been any issue's with this and if not have a good look,it's a pain when it goes wrong.

chech underneath especially the exhaust and the manifold area as this is made of cheese i think.....they rust very easily and will need replaced.another issue with rust is the sump,i had mine replaced and it's on it's way out again 3 yrs later.

of all the problems i've had are not the norm so i think everything else to check would just be the usual things visually and make sure the car is driving well and sounds ok......not using any water or oil etc.

good luck!!!

and remember Fix It Again Tomorrow

Lift the bonnet and make sure it has an engine. Also a steering wheel is good.

It should be fairly straight forward, have a look at the not Certs, service history and general condition of the car. If you are happy to proceed then go for it. I personally would sign up to a fiat owners forum and get owners opinions and known faults.

LOL hadn't heard that before:lol: it's spot on though.

I Had a Fiat once, and nothing.......I repeat NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS, worst car I've ever owned, felt so ripped off as I was warned..............so take fair warning............go for a Japanese car, Honda/nissan etc you cant go far wrong

Sounds like a good deal Fabian. Not a fan of Fiat's per say , but if its got the log book and service history then you could be onto a winner ?

Maybe get one of those AA checks done?

my 1st car was a fiat brava 1.2. loved it

regretted changing as it ran sweet as for the 3 years I owned it and apart from cv boots cost me nothing in parts and sailed through MOT's

I though FIAT stood for Fix It Again Tony :)
