This is a heads-up for those who might be interested.
I've used Sealskinz socks for a while and they work just great. Absolutely waterproof.
In another thread I saw people suggesting Dexshells as alternative, and since they are half the price of Sealskinz, I figured I'd try them out.
This is just one data point, of course, but I have to report that the Dexshells did NOT perform anywhere near as well as Sealskinz. For sure they kept my feet a bit drier than ordinary socks, but the water still got through, which never happens at all with Sealskinz. Maybe it's because I got the ultrathin Dexshells (which were indeed somewhat thinner than Sealskinz).
