Currently looking at investing in a new putter and love the look of the California del Mar. They have great reviews and a lot of pros use the scottys.

Anyone recommend something other than the mainstream putters? Have you something different from the mainstream brands that work for you?

Putters are definitely a personal thing, advice please??

Are you buying because of the name or because its the best putter for your stroke. I've the milled Odyssey #9 and does the same as the Scotty but cheaper. Got it as it was the best milled version for me. Wanted the Anser but it didn't work for me

Is Scotty not mainstream? I would have thought so with the popularity.
Personally I don't think they are all that good (and yes, I have tried and disliked many).
Currently I use a Rife which is a great putter IMO, the wife uses a Fisher goose-neck soft insert that is also a very, very good putter.

It's not the name, it's more the quality thing for me. I like how something is crafted, and appreciate the skill that goes into making something of quality

What about a non mainstream brand.........like Miura, for example, u may or may not have heard of them.......................i think they make putters too mate

£350 for a Miura KM 007 :eek::eek::eek:

Have you ever tried the Tour Edge putters? A mate of mine had one off eBay last year. It was a thing of beauty and very very good (for me anyway)

Great putter. Found that the Barbados was better weighted for me though. And then got the option of the IBF Aussie on here at a steal and it's a fantastic bit of kit.
When the Mrs was putter shopping recently (when she got the Fisher) she was very impressed with the Barbados Tropical as well.
It all depends on your putter stroke, but if there comes a time when I look at changing, I will definitely be looking at other Rife models or a Fisher as they just feel very well weighted and well made.

Edit to add, Oddsocks was selling a Rife here http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?49627-Fs-Rife-cayman-brac-r-h-34-quot-putter

Beautiful looking putter and if it's made like the Aussie then top quality too.

As a current and first time Scotty owner I vouch for them. Great balance, feel and certainly looks. I have the black mist 2.6 newport and it is without doubt the best looking putter I have ever had. Performance wise, it is equal and with more practice will hopefully become better than my previous favourite putter, a SeeMore FGP Mallet (highly recommended). I like milled putters, not a fan of inserts. Being a massive Ping fan, I tried the Anser milled before I got the scotty, wanting to love it, but just couldn't. I found it too light and 'wavy'. If that makes any sense.

All of the above could change in a heartbeat though, I keep looking at the Nome...

The mallet putter looks really nice, do you prefer a scotty over them tho?

Its a hard one to call really. The Scotty is lovely and inspires confidence. The Tour Edge had all the same characteristics but it didn't make a significant enough improvement to warrant the outlay. But, that means that it was at least as good as the Scotty in my bag (She's called Greta by the way.)

I have one myself, buy tbh a putter is a very personal thing, as has already been said, you need to try out a heap and see which one works for you. I tried a fair few including different Scotty's but found the centre shafted 2.6 suited me. But not the others.

Go find a store that has lots to try - and try them!

The reason that there are so many styles of putters is because they are quite 'personal' items/tools.

Find out the style and length that suits you generally, then pick the one of those that feels best. That'll almost certainly work pretty much the best for you.

I've got that putter although not gaming it at the moment. Love the head design but the feel wasn't quite there for the Scotty.

I have to be honest in saying I tried that rife back to back against the Scotty and preferred the rife, because liked you I love the unusual.

After playing with the ping I cradle it was determined that the rife was not right for me, and I'm not gaming a VP1 TOUR MILLED Cleveland. Not as main stream as some but in my opinion the putter knocks the stuffing out of any of the Scotties I've tried and the tour milled series even though their top spec is still 30% cheaper

I've tried every Scotty I've seen but I'm yet to find one that I actually like to put with....... Being honest I don't ever see me gaming one
