Went down on Friday and met my dad who was going to have a look at the Titleist AP1 or AP2 irons. As Titleist (also Mizuno and ping) were not at the show he would have to go to AG who were the main retailer at the show. Affordable golf and County golf were also there but on a much smaller scale and mainly had old kit.

Looking through the AG store we could not find the AP1 or AP2 irons. We asked one of the staff who said they are not out yet!!! We also asked another staff member who said that stocks were low from the manufacturer and they were unable to secure any for the show.

I was on the lookout for a Cleveland CG14 56 degree black pearl wedge. They only had chrome available in 56 degrees. One spotty ork tried to sell me the 50 degree black pearl as there was only 6 degrees of difference which is “hardly nothing” he said. Another staff member said they could have more for the weekend and I could come back. They said they would be unable to call me to inform me if they got more in, they just expected me to pay £12 entry and £3 car parking on the off chance they would get more. They were also charging £80 when it is available for £75 on their web and stores in Edinburgh. Also the Braid Hills store in Edinburgh had both the AP1 and AP2 in stock

As AG is the main retailer they can be as sloppy as they want as they will still make sales. Its time somebody such as Nevada Bob was in the show promote some competition.

Hi Stuart, seems to be an issue all over regarding Titleist. I'm looking forward to trying out the ZM and ZB irons however seems to be a delay getting the kits out. I'm gonna try out the AP2 also.

"only 6 degrees of difference" that guy should not be selling golf clubs - some unassuming person will listen to him one day...

Titleist customworks sets should be hitting (Titleist associated) retail outlets later this week if what I'm told is correct...

The fitting equipment is on it's way. The clubs have already arrived.....shame on those not stocking them, especially from what you've described.
My pro wants me to try AP1s with the fitting, I don't know how I'm going to break it to him that I don't need new irons (for now, at least). Should I turn up to my next lesson with my new irons and make no comment? I feel a bit of a rat, but they were too good a bargain to turn down. I'm not ruling out a set of APs, but he'll need to get me down to single figures first......(I feel a putting lesson coming on!!!!)

I know what your saying about the feeling of not wanting to break it to your pro, if I were you i'd tell him that I am happy to try the clubs, and then just make the point of saying that what you have recently bought suit you better, regardless of the outcome. He can't argue with that becasue at least you have given them a go.

dave, I had to tell my pro about the new irons; I thought he took it well. ;)
Then I booked a bunker lesson for next weekend.

Are the shows worth bothering with? I had thought to go to the London Show but if it's just what I can see in AG or DG any day of the week . . .

THis is the third time I've been and I thought it was the most disappointing one yet.I was intending trying some new 3 woods, but was glad I went to Nevada Bob's 2 weeks ago instead,as many of the club manufacturers were not at the show!I now have a nice Wilson Luxe.
Don't think it was worth £12 and I'm glad I got in with the free ticket in last months "Bunkered".

In the bag:
Taylor Made HT Burner driver
Wilson Luxe 3 wood,18 degree loft
Ping G5 irons,TFC 100 soft/regular shafts
Cobra bafflers 20 and 26 degree loft
Jack Nicklaus 52 and 56 wedges
Ping B60 putter

Gave the ryder cup a miss. They were guarding it that closely they were not happy when you tried to take a photo of it yourself.

I was not at last years show but i thought it was better than two years ago, which i think was the first. I agree that until all the big manufacturers are there it is a bit flat. Think its only worthwhile if you are wanting a bit of kit (C****m fitted)from the manufacturers who are there. I too used the free bunkered offer, don't think i would ever pay £12.
