Just a wee update for those who like to keep track of these things. The GM match at Goswick is tied at 3 games a piece after day one. All to play for tomorrow. Off for beers now.

Cheers

John

Aye a great 1st days play played in good conditions.Sadly I and KHW went down by 1 hole with GB72 (20 Handicap my arse!)

Team Goswick faired poorly with myself,Screwback and IMO1 all losing...rumour has it DCB is considering pairing me and Screwback together as sacrificial lambs tomorrow! :o ;)

Off for a wee swally. :D

Well, day 2 just finished and.....

England victorious after winning 4 of the 6 matches today. Cracking weather, company, scoring and games. Thanks to all involved for the banter, beers and craic.

Until next year. Photos and stories to follow over the next few days, no doubt. Might even have a bash at another wee video if everyone can send me their photos!

Well done England.

Flip sake you bunch of useless twats!

Imagine allowing a bunch of Southerners slaughter you. I'm be emailing Alex Salmond asking for your passports to be revoked and 3 years in prison!

Gutted I missed it, sounds like a great couple of days.

John, if you could let me have some details and pictures I'll get it in the next issue of the mag.

Oh yes, almost forgot Getttt innnnnnnnnnn England !!!!!

Yeah thoroughly enjoyed. Met a great bunch of lads and had a real good laugh.... Of course the fact that England won capped off a great couple of days. Although there was never any doubt.... Was there?

:p

I thought you Scottish types were supposed to be the Kings of Links???

As punishment, you all have to wear England shirts for the next round of qualifiers....... ;)

You can put my passport in prison if you like but it won't change the fact that, despite our best efforts, England won fair and square. Congrats to captain Vig and his team.

Can I add big thanks to all who made the trip. The course was fantastic as usual and the weather was kind to us. Short sleeve order was decreed for the back nine on the Saturday as temperatures soared to around 15 deg C

Big kudos to Tincup who played his socks off on the back nine to win the vital final point for Englandshire.

Big thanks to the guys I played with (IM02, Timberbonce, Vig, Centuryg5, J_F, Richard) for the games and good laughs

Thanks to the blonde woman in the bars on Friday who should really have had a "GM Forum meet groupie" T-Shirt on.

Honorary Rock-hard Geordie award to GrumpyJock for wearing just a polo top when everyone else was garbed in jumpers and fleeces. (GJ, next time at least put some troosers on, mate)

Hats off to DCB for organising the thing (I'll post the video his speech later)

Special thanks to Dodger's Dad for doing the first tee announcements and reminding us all about the OOB down the right. A true gent, thank you.

But surely my biggest thanks go to Viscount17 who kindly donated 2.3 Kg of stilton as a prize (which I won for nearest the pin at the 9th). There may be posters who claim that at the 9th I duffed a 7 iron which bounced off the round and flukily ran on to 8ft. The gospel truth was that I hit a towering 7 iron 20 ft past the pin which spun back 12 ft to leave me a simple tap in for the 2. Anyone claiming anything to the contrary is clearly not in touch with reality and is in need of expensive, yet ultimately fruitless, therapy.

Said 2.3Kg of cheese has been reduced to a mere 2.23kg following a major cheesefest in the SS2 household so I am considering stuffing the Xmas turkey with it

Finally, I hereby offer to take up where DCB left off and organise the re-match at Goswick next year. Register your interest now by emailing stiltonoverdosedept@SS2BigScaryHospital.co.uk or sending me a PM. Preference will be given to those who attended this year but anyone offering to donate some nice Yorkshire Blue/Shropshire Blue/Roquefort/Chateau Lafite 1961/Large envelope stuffed with cash with "For SS2 just for taking part" on it/Lifetime supply of stella/the official GM Forum Meet Blond Groupie/ for the prize table may well find their applications viewed favourably.

Cheers
Andy

So after two days of battle over the Goswick Links, Team England came out on top. Vig had some inspired pairings over the two days and it all came down to the last match out on the course on saturday afternoon.

The full results are as follows.

GB72 & PeterT beat Dodger & KHW
IMO2 & Timberbonce lost to RichardI & SS2
Vig & Tincup lost to Tommo21 & Madandra
Murph & Pro_V_Wan_Kenobi beat DCB & DuncanS
CenturyG5 & Whereditgo beat Screwback & GerryL

With 2 points for a win and 1 point for a drawn match, at the end of day 1 the match was finely balanced at 6 - 6

Saturday

IMO2 & Viscount17 beat Screwback & StuartD
GB72 & Timberbonce beat Dodger & GerryL
PeterT & Grumpyjock beat DCB & KHW
Murph & Wheredsitgo lost to RichardI & Madandra

Pro_V_Wan_Kenobi & Tincup beat Tommo21 & StuartM

Saturdays matches gave England a 8 - 4 points win on the day and an over all win by 14 points - 10points.

Two days of good weather on a course that was in excellent condition and played in the true spirit of the game was a perfect exampe how the Forum has grown over the years.

Well dome Team England, just remember though gents, we'll be back next year and trying even harder to win back 'The Honour'

Just got back.

Thanks to everyone for a really great weekend, top company both on the course and in the pubs after. Dodger must be sick of the sight of me but I promise to double my efforts to get my handicap down for next year as otherwise I may be accused of banditry.

It was a long drive to get there but totally worth it and I am more than happy to put my name down for next year.

Would just like to echo the comments above, fantastic course in excellent condition, great weather and friendly rivalry amongst friends old and new.

Special thanks to DCB for organising the event and to my playing partners Century5 and Murph and our opponents Screwback and Gerry and madandra and Richard for the company and spirit with which the matches were played.

Great fun! I'll be there next year for sure :)

Pretty empty win knowing it's the Irish that are the best golfers in the isles.

That is mere conjecture, an opinion without foundation, evidence or historical proof in the realms of GM Events.

The Irish are the best golfers that goes without saying .

I love taken money of the Scottish playing golf over here ;)

When was the last winner of a major from England or Scotland or even Wales. Big Paddy then GMac.

Ole ole ole ole ole give it a lash Jack and all that..... :p :p

What can I say? It pains me to say it but well done Engerlund.

GB72,if you aint off at least 16 next year there needs to be serious questions asked, steady as a rock and what a man with the flatstick....if you want a man to hole a 5 footer for your life he's ya man!

Till next time,it's been emotional! ;)

Oh SS2, how little you know, a certain couple of irish lads, good looking fellas might I add, made the trip over for Spey Valley, Castle Stuart and Nairn in April this year.
There was matchplay at both SV and Nairn. Played 2, won 2 :D

Well done to the Englanders, enjoy it!

Mr Brendy,

So on the basis of 2 games you declare that Ireland are the champions of these fair isles? Surely that is too modest a sample size to have any relevance. I put it to you that Ireland: north/south/combined have yet to achieve any sort of official GM ranking and are akin to the Faroe Islands of golf: unknown but allegedly dangerous.

Yours
A. Pedant (Mrs)

Well have to say great weekend...some great craic and good to put some more faces to names.

Thanks to my playing partners on both days, Bill century5, Gerry Love and Phil whereditgo, today Ivan IM01, SturatD and Steve Viscount17 enjoyed the company even though got beat both days. :D

Ps well done england :D

Paddy is a Paisley boy, you can tell from his accent.

GMac is actually Snake Plisken from the film "Escape From Noo Yoik" so therefore is an American.
