Would ditch Perth its only 20 miles from me but there's nowt there, Pitlochry is a fantastic place to visit. Or Oban and Fort William on the other side.
Pitlochry is top of the list at the moment Steve, but considering Loch Earn.
Thanks everyone for all your recommendations. Apart from the golf courses my knowledge of Scotland is sadly very limited.

If anyone is about Sunday 20th around St Andrews and fancies a beer let me know. We had a couple with Euan last time, but not sure he is still on the site. Nice bloke who signed us into the members Clubhouse.

Following on from the above, any recommendations for a night out in Edinburgh midweek. Comedy Club doesn't have anything on that appeals, so anything else. Recommendation for a decent restaurant would be good, plus entertainment for three old gits.

If it were me, some lunch in Pitlochry at Atholl Palace and then I would take a trip to Loch Tummel (about 20 minutes drive) for a walk around there, stunning scenery around the Queens View. Absolutely stunning.

Done that, and we are hitting the hot spots of Edinburgh the night before. We want scenic Scotland.

There are plenty of nice pubs with scenic views of Edinburgh Castle :ears:

If you like Italian, i can reccomend II Castello on Spittal St(don't let the name put you of), its just off Castle Terrace, never had a bad meal.
If you like blues/jazz music we've had some cracking nights in The Jazz Bar. Its on Chambers St in the old town, only 5/10 minutes walk from the train station. I think there's something on most nights.

Thanks guys, always prefer a personal recommendation than just reading up on somewhere from a guide.

Pitlochry is top of the list, although if the weather is good we might add in Loch Earn, and perhaps some fishing. One of our group is a really keen fisherman, and as he is our driver that would keep him happy.;)

If you are going to Pitlochry, do not go and have a look at the golf course.
Unless you've got your clubs in the boot of the car.
Because you will be kicking yourself for not taking them with you

Yes indeed, it is lovely up there - this thread reminds me how lucky some of us are to live in Scotland.

You surely are. Pitlochry is one of the prettiest golf courses I have ever played. The views are outstanding. It's been a long, long time since I last visited there and all I have are fond memories of the place. Golf played with a group of like minded friends, some of them sadly gone now....but we had such a good time every year we visited. How I would love to go back, both to the course and those years....I'm filling up now :(:(:(
