Scoring Formats ?

I am currently using the Golfshake app to record my scores and track my handicap. When adding a round I get the choice of 'Strokeplay Handicap' or 'Strokeplay Gross' can someone tell me what the difference is please ?

Stroke play gross is your total score.
Stroke play handicap would be your total score minus the allotted handicap the app has given you.
