Had the pleasure of taking on TonyN and RGUK at Ascot with my trusty wing man HTL. We were still unbeaten in forum challenges coming into this but it looked a tough ask. Tony started poorly as did Dave (RGUK) but they soon found their feet. I was my normal erratic self although I am struggling to make a proper swing with my back problem. Fortunately HTL had ridden into town on his horse, somebrero on his head and he almost single handedly kept us in it.

It was a great game and there was never more than a hole either way. Dave hit a great tee shot to find the green at the 218 yard 17th to go one up but HTL made a solid par into the wind to win the last to tie the game and maintain our record.

The course was in great condition although conditions were tricky with a blustery wind. I think off 19 Tony will do some damage at Walton Heath. He's sneaky long. Dave was his usual Mr Consistant and is currently swatting up on "Caddying for Dummies" to carry the bag tomorrow. It was great to play with Dave again after a two year break and Tony is a solid geezer. A great day (I even bought them lunch) and a fair result although it was only another 41 points today for HTL including a blow out on 17

He actually went OB left on the 17th. His putting wasn't bad today but the driver behaved so he just bludgeoned every hole into submission. He did play well to be fair but he'll get his cut in due course.

he'll get his cut in due course.

But will he?

It seems every time there's a card in his hand it all goes t*ts up!

Thought I heard someone say there may be a bit of handicap protection going on but I couldn't possibly comment... :p :p :p :p :p

Definitely no handicap protection I can promise you. I have entered 3 this year and cocked them all up. Almost quit Golf after the last effort. Decided to not enter any this month and just try and remember what it feels like to have fun playing Golf and not concentrating on getting cut.

Had a real good time today lads. TonyN is a far better player than his handicap certificate and hits a deceptively long ball for his smooth swing. And RGDave is fantastic on + around the greens. Just wish I could say something positive about my partner today.......
:o ;)

I'll get you one on Saturday. I didn't need to do much anyway as you were in total control. I've got agree that Tony is much better than his handicap suggests and Dave is the epitomy of steady. Nothing adventurous but straight, and in play with a good touch on the greens.

In my defence it was my first full 18 holes for nearly 3 weeks and I hadn't played great before the layoff. I did struggle at times to make a decent turn without getting some discomfort but not going to use that as an excuse for an average day. I did putt well!
