Evening All,

I'm hoping to draw on some experiences here.....

My phone is up for renewal and have the option of the Samsung Galaxy S2 (free) or iPhone 4s (£40 charge).

I have an Android phone at the moment and quite like the OS, just that the handset I have is pap (Sony Xperia X10, atrocious).

So, anyone have any experiences of these phones or any phone "geeks" that can advise on either?

Erring towards the Samsung just so I'm not another person with an iPhone but if they are the best out there I'm not too fussed.....

Thanks in advance.

The specs are pretty similar I tgink, go to gsmarena and get a comparison going between the two. personally I wouldn't spend the money for an iPhone. I use an HTC with android and find it more than good enough for everything I need.

One of my friends has just switched from an iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S2, he says there isnt really a lot of difference, the screen on the samsung is bigger and arguably better, but he says iTunes has a lot more to offer, and being someone who owns a HTC and an ipod touch I have to agree, iTunes is still way ahead of the Android Market, if I had to pick id probably go iPhone, but if you go Samsung I doubt you'll be disappointed

I am looking at a similar choice in a month or so and am edging towards the S2. The main reason is that the Iphone will only be a viable option to me if I can go for one with enough memory to replace my Ipod Touch and that is when they start getting expensive. Without the high memory I am not willing to spend the extra on the Iphone contract.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note (Think S2 but a lot larger) and absolutely love it. Touch sensitive screen, decent operating system and built in satnav and other decent apps, I brought in all other iphone 4S units for the rest of the mobile phone users but I have to say that this blows them away with functionality and ability.

Has to be iphone 4 all day long for me.

For years i was always against them but now i'd never change.

Apple brings out a new phone and then within the next few months all the rivals bring out phones that are nearly identical.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a cracking phone, but if your after Android I would wait as the S2 will be superseded soon and Samsung are renowned for dropping support quickly after new releases.

The iPhone remains the best reviewed of those two, although the Galaxy is clearly a good device. The iPhone integration and App Store is brilliant, and if also get a new Apple TV, you can stream content from your iPhone to your TV.

Android fans always claim that the killer Android OS will be the next one, forgetting that iOS will be updated too.

Only an iDiot would choose a phone just because it is not an iPhone.

Thats not strictly true. The Samsung Galaxy S2 was released and blew anything else on the market out of the water, including the iphone. There is a BIG suggestion that the reason iphone didnt release a v5 is because it would only be just about as good as the S2, so changed to the 4S.

The 5 is likely to be slightly more powerful which would probably be marginally better than the S2, however, Samsung and HTC will also have new launches ready for that.

There's no doubt that Samsung and HTC scared Appple with their S2 and Incredible (i think thats the model).

Either way, you wont be disappointed with whichever one you choose, Im sure.

For me the S2 is just slightly too big for me and as said earlier the ease of use with itunes and the app store i doubt will ever be matched by android or windows phones.

No thats fair enough. There is no right or wrong answer, each phone will be ideal for someone.

I dont use itunes so no real idea how good it is. I have a free app on Andriod where I get all my music from and doesnt cost me anything.

The market is great for renting films too, but I suppose if they offered me the chance to buy box sets, like i understand itunes do, that would be good.

Rubbish. The Galaxy hardware is pretty good, but the OS and app availability still doesn't beat the iPhone. Plenty of the expert press agree with me. The iPhone killer may arrive one day, but that day hasn't happened yet.

You are entitled to your opinion, even though it be wrong. My above post is far from "rubbish". You prefer iphone, great for you, go stick with them. As I said some people will prefer them, others wont. Each to their own.

I have an G2 and it is brilliant. Yes, I agree that the app market and music store is way behind Apple, but then I've got an iPad and iMac for that! ;)

In terms of usability, the speed is great, the screen is bigger than a 4S, the camera is excellent, the display is pin-sharp, and importantly the OS doesn't crash or freeze (and this is not implying that the 4S does, BTW!).

I've haven't used an iPhone but I have no desire to now. Stating the bleeding obviouis, it will depend on what you want from a phone.
