Sounds like you are doing something wrong with your battery.

My Iphone was 2 years old and was still going great. The screen smashed, and my bank offer me free insurance so I sent it away and they sent me a brand new Iphone as a free replacement.

Now I am sim only, £10 a month spot on.
I wish I knew what it was. I thought it was from 'overcharging' when leaving it on charge overnight, but a friend of mine said that shouldn't really be an issue. I do use my phone a lot, but surely they are designed to be used without the battery deteriorating over time. Today my phone died at 13:00, having been taken off charge (at 100%) at 7:00 this morning. So it lasted 6 hours. It's less than 18 months old.

Do you have any phone insurance? Or is the phone still under warranty.

If the battery is faulty they will replace it

I don't buy insurance... and warranty would only cover the first year I'd have thought?

I pay £10 a month for a premium bank account with Nationwide.

Get world wide travel insurance, including Skiing and golf cover. Get breakdown cover, get phone insurance, card is free for foreign exchange withdrawals.

Worth considering, shop around of course other banks might suit you better. Much better than paying £17 a month just for phone insurance...

I'm on EE, always have been, since I was Orange initially and they became EE at some point.

Phone contracts used to be 18 months. Every smartphone I've ever had has lasted about a year before the battery was totally knackered. You could string it out for another 4-5 months, get your early upgrade and it was all good. The last contract I got though (and this was in August 2016), suddenly they only do two year contracts. I got the Huawei P9 because I'm not really willing to pay extra for iPhone or Samsung when they do the same job.

As always, the battery was shagged by about July last year, but since I'm now on a two year contract, I'm still stringing this out and my next upgrade is not til June. It currently lasts about 7 hours from full charge to dead. Even if I pay early upgrade cost now (which is £148 - not cheap) - all the contracts now are two years. So in a year's time I'll be in exactly the same situation.

It's a bloody scam! Phones never last more than a year, yet they force you into two year contracts so you are forced to pay for early upgrades every time. What an absolute joke. I think on my next upgrade I'll just go for Sim only contract and buy a second hand handset from computer exchange or something. In the long run that'll probably be cheaper than shelling out 40 quid a month on a contract and then paying £150 for early upgrade in a year.

Everything is a bloody scam nowadays. Rant over!

IMO Mobile Telephony and Data is scam - yes - and a total rip off. We have made ourselves dependent upon them and we get charged a fortune - for something that did not exist 15yrs ago and for which the need (to be able to keep in touch when out and about) was minimal. Dupe us with attractive phones into contracts that cost us a fortune when we look at the overall cost - and make the phones obsolescent almost from the point they are released to the market - and easily prone to damage.

My rant comes from looking at our monthly vodafone bill which has often been up to £200 - for three phones.

Not being a technophobe, is there an app or something running in the background that is draining the battery?

I buy sim free phones and go for a sim only deal

Mine is £5 a month from BT

My phone is Moto G xx and I get 3-4 days between charges. Mind you if I use it for something like hole 19 it dies very quickly

Mate,

I have the same phone as you. Had it for almost 2 years and it is running fine, no issues with battery at all.

I just replaced my original Samsung Galaxy which I've had for many years and still only charged it two or three times a week.

I use a Galaxy Note 4 for work. Use it for voice calls, emails and some limited internet use. The battery just about lasts a day, but I stick it on charge overnight and always have.
Sadly we have become dependant on mobiles to do everything apart fromt he washing up, and the batteries are smaller to fit inside the damn things.
I wonder how long your battery would last if you just used it for voice calls and texts for a week?

I have come to the conclusion that many of you people really don't use your phones very much, lol. I am on mine a lot of the day. Hour travel into work - I'll be on my phone to pass the time. Using Facebook, Whatsapp mostly. I have a fairly dull desk job too so I'm regularly using Whatsapp during the day. But even accepting all this, I don't think the battery should get worse just because the phone is used a lot?

No i use mine a lot, if i'm working from home which is at least 4 days a week i make a fair amount of phone calls, 20 plus a day. as i say only time its an issue as when i have to take a few photo's then the battery does go.

Ive also heard looking at porn uses up lots of battery life;)

Download a decent free task killer. A lot of apps carry on running in the background when you think you've closed it and use up battery. Making sure each app is closed properly when you've finished with it will save you a bit of charge.

The main issue that I have with them is that if you are not careful and attentive, or if you do not really understand data/wifi/downloading and when a smartphone might be costing you money without you actually realising it - then you can find yourself with horrible bills.
