Roll up, roll up! Has anyone ever used a SAM putting lab or had a fitting using one?

After months of impulse buying putters, I'm going to Pannal GC in West Yorkshire for a SAM lab session, to hear the computer tell me how much I suck.

So, putter fittings using all the latest gadgetry, what say you?

ive used one but with my current putter
but if I want a fitting I just give a club fitter my SAM lab sheet that I was given
and they can make a putter to match the stats

the pro I see give me a lesson on SAM lab and wow it fixed my stroke out it really opened my eyes how bad my stroke was

worth having a lesson it it

My putter fitting was done using SAM as my Pro offers it. Results ruled out four putters then I was left with a choice of two with great stats. Went with the one I felt most comfortable with in the end. HTH

If done well, this can be great. It's not exactly latest gadgetry - been around for more than 12 years.

I know a couple of (Scottish) folk who were less than impressed with the session they had.

So it's as much the operator and environment as the tool itself. Worth doing imo. if the reputation is good though.

Once you've found a Putter that suits your style, I believe you should stop fiddling about with 'toys' and commit to that single one- with perhaps 1 other 'to keep the main one honest'! :D

only heard good things, you have no idea if you putt with an open face, down or up on the ball, aligning incorrectly etc etc etc

You can't fail to glean something from it, Foxies Scottish pair (don't see the relevance of nationality but hey ho) probably didnt get either an instant 'cure' or the results didn't suit what they liked themselves....possibly....plus it's not free:whistle:

The answer is get a lesson and spend time learning to putt on the practise green. I spend a hour at least 3 times a week and I am happy with my putting gadgets will not putt for you

thats the point, the OP probably isnt......

Agreed. I phrased it badly. It was the location (Scotland) that as relevant, not their Nationality.

At the time - and maybe even now - there was only 1 known of in Scotland. Both guys had bad experiences with that one - both with the environment - a upstairs false floor, so there were issues with being level - and the operator/Coach, who didn't com across well to either. I believe I posted that, though not the reasons, in a reply to a post of yours. I've since found that there's also 1 at the Fitting Centre at St Andrews - run by the AGT. Knowing them from old, you should be well served by them.

As the facility the OP-er is going to is being run by the Pro at a Club, as opposed to by an outside Pro at a Club, I'd expect the set-up to be better. I'm pretty certain he'll have a better experience. It's actually a pretty simple, but effective, piece of kit that hasn't been superceded in a dozen years.

Well get on the greens and practice is my point a fitting is not going to fix it for him is it. Use what you feel comfortable with and get on with it. I have 2 putters both very different and I can use both equally as good so it the technique not the club

The Sam putting lab will give you lots of data.
It will show you stuff like the angle off attack, the speed, the direction of the swing, where you make contact on the putter face etc etc
In other words, you will discover what you do well and what you dont.
Using different putters may give you better results in some areas and and worse in others.
You pay your money, you take your choice

At the end of the day, it's about the direction of the stroke, the speed of the stroke and the confidence your putter gives and if a new putter gives you more confidence then pay the dosh.

You could be practicing the wrong thing :smirk: you're a year into golf, trust me you will realise its much more complicated than that:rolleyes:

see Bobs post above :smirk:

Practice makes permanent - not necessarily perfect!
