So only 18 months or so to go but Tom Watson has announced he only wants 3 picks intead of 4..

Lord knows how many we're going to have - probably 2 but you never know.

Should the selection process be the same?
Same number of qualifying Tournaments, same number of picks, those picks announced at the same time etc etc ?

Or should it be left to Us and Them to decide the process..?

Personally, I like the idea of having identical qualifying criteria and announcing the picks at the same time at a neutral venue....might spice it up even more....

I agree, each team should have the same set of criteria and picks announced at the same time.

Disagree- its Europe V America, its up to each to decide how they pick their cream to represent them.

Commonality would be virtually impossible.

Most of the Euro team spend the majority of their time in the States & barely fulfill the minimum requirements for European Tour membership (thanks to Majors & WGC events).

I don't agree that the qualifying criteria should be the same, as DV says its Europe v USA do up to each to decide how they choose there team be it top 12 on money list, in the world rankings or just the captains buddies.

I think it is fine with each side picking the way they want to. As long as we in Europe keep a system that ensures the best in the world (Donald, McIlroy, Rose etc) get to play then I dont care.

I agree they should both have the same number of picks.
I like the home and away format though except when a captain (a certain Davis Love) alters the course massively to favours his players. I few tweaks yes , but removing all the rough is not golf.

Just read about this on beeb.

Never really knew that they had differing models for selection tbh, also I think its very brave of Watson to reduce his control in selection.

Seems to be a bit of motivational ploy by Watson, "play better and you get in" Does anyone think this will have an impact? personally I think players who are the captains picks would be more motivated.

I think it should be 12 picks. Captain chooses his team.

THIS is a GREAT Idea

Captain lives and dies by HIS selections, NOT the players he has been given by the 'Lists'
So NO complaints if it doesnt work out, and the Captain can Deservedly take the plaudits if it does..........

Either that, or Id be happy to see the Top 3 off each List, and Captain getting 6 Picks

IT WONT EVER HAPPEN, But Id be happy to see it this way

Nothing new in this at all, home captains have been doing this for years. Perfectly normal behaviour IMO, maximise your home advantage.

Tom Watson obviously disagrees with you, preferring the lists - how cool is that!!! :D

But would we really end up with much different from what we have now. Any captain who doesn't pick the best 9 or 10 European/American players plus a couple of "team players" isn't likely to win.
