Ryder Cup 2027 - Ticket Pricing

Absolutely disgusting and if the DPWT needs better financing then those in charge need looking at, they shouldn’t be relying on a Ryder Cup every 4 years to take peoples eyes out.

It was headline news when Oasis tickets went up in line with demand, they were slated for months.

World Cup tickets the same, it’s all about the money not the actual fan.

Say what you like about it being needed to develop the DPWT, what does that mean? Increase the prize fund for the already mega rich players? Yeh, great.

For contrast I’ve got a ticket for the final round of The Open, £140. Even that’s eye watering for me, but still within the realms of reality.

Talk about growing the game. I imagine lots of Irish kids have been getting excited about being able to go for years, and now a lot of them will be priced out of it. And you can guarantee that a lot of people who go aren’t really golfers, they’ll just be ‘sports fans’ who like the big events. Which is fine, but not at the expense of actual fans.

Grow the game my arse.

I do get that they should sell them for as high a price as possible, that makes business sense.
If they are not careful though only corporate fans will be able to attend which will dilute the atmosphere and make future Ryder cups less interesting for people which in turn will make tickets less valuable.
I would like to of seen a sliding scale for ticket prices.
Make the cheaper tickets just basic and the more expensive the ticket the more you get for your money.
Maybe charge more and that guarantees a seat in a stand.
Charge more and that includes food.
That way it’s still accessible for everyone but on different levels and would still create the atmosphere everyone wants and which keeps the Ryder cup a prime sporting event.

I'm glad I've done a couple of Ryder cups , It is a cracking experience but for me its now got out of hand price wise, £500 to watch foursomes and better ball from 20 people deep or rushing to get on a grandstand at 3am to watch the opening tee shots inst VFM
for the USA bethpage one i went to Spain, stayed in a lovely apartment on a marina and we watched it in a bar with a load of other golfers and the craic was excellent as was the price of a beer and the whole trip was less than a days entrance.
If you've never been to a Ryder cup, go for it because it isn't going to get any cheaper

I'm not really fussed, I had no intention of going anyway. I'm sure the atmosphere is amazing, but when it comes to actually watching golf then surely you're far better off watching it on TV so you can see everything at once.

It'll be interesting to see how the Irish sales go tomorrow. The price hasn't gone down well around here, I don't know anyone who intends to buy.

Adare is an unbelievable venue in terms of condition, manicuring, etc. But it would definitely divide opinion due to the price of everything.
At the moment if you want to play a round there you can only do so if you are also staying in the hotel, you can't just come in and play golf.

The cheapest option for one nights stay is €1,400 plus your green fee of €550

Italy would have been a lot more uncertain in terms of local ticket sales, particularly with golf not being a top tier sport there, no star Italian player, and being further away from the biggest ticket market (UK). They would have priced (over)cautiously to make sure it did sell.

In contrast, the island of Ireland has a strong history of good crowds at golf events at the Irish Open. We know willingness of UK crowds travelling over is not an issue at all (6Nations) and it has the biggest golfing star on the planet as yet another draw (yes I know Scotty is better in terms of results, but in terms of column inches…).
My point still stands though even when you look at pricing for Paris (should have been £331 if equivalent to next years pricing), Gleneagles (£312 equivalent) or even as back as far as Celtic Manor (£279 equivalent). These are all very easily accessible venues for an enormous amount of golf fans with absolutely no doubts that it would be a sell out and demand for tickets would be extremely high. The Ryder Cup popularity has remained incredibly high over this entire period.
However I do not recall huge increases in prices over these times - it has never been a cheap event to attend but this gouging is a new thing.
This means either that in the past they have massively underpriced (particularly at even more convenient venues) in the past or that we have become suckers now.

Went to the Saturday at Gleneagles in 2014. Enjoyed it well enough but for me the Ryder Cup is a better TV event given the limited number of games on the course and therefore crowd density. Would struggle to justify even a third of the cost of a 2027 ticket on that basis.

Not sure the Ryder Cup is anything to do with the DPWT. yes, they will get some revenue from it but they aren't anything to do with the running of it.

The biggest benefit to those living in Adare is that there is currently a new bypass road being constructed to help with traffic for the event. The town is a notorious place for traffic congestion on a daily basis. I think it's the main reason people are happy the Ryder cup is coming, nothing to do with the actual golf.
Obviously local businesses are hoping to benefit too.

I thought this when i went, with only 4 matches out there we had to watch a lot on the screens as we sat on holes further ahead to guarantee a good spot.

I know they’ll sell out whatever they’re charging but it would’ve been a nice statement to have been a bit cheaper.
Nice statements don’t win against business profits mind you.

I’ll give it a miss at those prices.
