Rugby school

I have a middle name (but only 1), went to public school and played rugby for both my school and the RAF U21's.

Shall I just paint a big target on my back now??:ROFLMAO:

Stay calm! You are not alone.

Three Christian names an ex-public schoolboy. Mine was a very serious rugby playing school yet I managed to "disappear" on a Saturday afternoon to play football.

Having said that I really don't recognise the image of rugby players being painted by some on here.

Certainly doesn't fit with the Leicester Tigers players (both past and present) at our Club.

I've played both codes. Coming from a very strong Rugby League town (Widnes) it was built in to your DNA.
I remember the time that, if you played Rugby League you weren't allowed to play Union. Obviously that's changed now but there was a lot of snobbery from the Union people at the time, even in Widnes.
Having played hooker in both codes I far preferred League as I had greater involvement in the game. Even now when I drive past a rugby pitch I still wish I could be out there.

I thought the problem was where Rugby League was a professional game and people were paid, Union was an amateur game whereby you were not allowed to play if you had played as a professional.

A very, very long time since Union, at the top level, was a truly amateur sport.

I appreciate that but I was replying to the comment that said "I remember the time that, if you played Rugby League you weren't allowed to play Union "

Yes, I suppose what I was trying to reference was the hypocrisy that existed in bygone days.

League players weren't allowed to play Union for fear of corrupting the supposedly amateur status of the Union players.

Meanwhile top level "amateurs" were often paid very generous "expenses" and sometimes found jobs with committee member's companies.

The infamous "Boot Money"
The hypocrisy was terrible.

Possibly even worse was the practice of players being given jobs by committee members and the like for which their qualifications were dubious at best.

Much healthier now there is no longer a distinction between amateurs and professionals.

My school was crap, rugby was a punishment. The missus is from Warrington and has got me into watching league, love it. Do still like the posh boys union though 😉
