I loved Royal Aberdeen… The staff, caddies, clubhouse were all great, but the course was even better!
Much has been said about the quality of the front 9 and everything superlative is true! I have never enjoyed a group of holes so much ever!
The way that they provide definition and security to the holes makes them as good as they are to look at also playable too!
The back nine however I feel is always overlooked. It is a great group of holes too, however compared to the front it is good not great. Anywhere else they would be brilliant!
On the front 9 I was +1 with back to back birdies on the 6th and 7th, and on the back +9 so I managed a +10 over round which considering the conditions was (if I may say so myself!) phenomenal!
We were delayed from our tee time due to the "haar" (sea mist to us southerners) coming in. In the end we decided to give it a go as it was playable, it remained so until the 10th, the furthest place from the clubhouse when visibility was limited to 130 yards, we could barely see the bunkers let alone the flag or green on the Par 3 11th. However, we played on and battled through it as we had to walk in the direction we were going as it was, so we thought we may aswell play it!
Highlights were nearly holing my tee shot at the par 3 3rd, and the 50 ft putt from off the green on the 6th for birdie, aswell as finishing with only 2 lost balls!
