Roy keane to Celtic

It's not a hard job really - will win the title no doubt

Let's be honest. If they chose me to manage Celtic, I could win the league.

Keane is a good manager. But of a clown on camera, but good manager

I like him, one of these days he's going to leap over the desk and nut Adrian Chiles.

Not keen on Keane
I fear Celtic will be making the same mistake as they did with King Kenny.
Not a good idea to let the shareholders pick the manager.

To the best of my limited knowledge I thought Keane had a very poor record as a manager

Not poor but average at best.

Keane will do ok domestically but will be found out in Europe

Ambivalent/Ho-hum about him!

Punditry isn't any better than any fan could do imo.

Evil player, but took to his Captain's role well.

Hasn't actually performed as a Manager and, depending on contract clauses, may be deserting!

As it's difficult to fail at Celtic, this could well be good for both sides.

It's the Championship that will find the 'best' Manager! AMC's (and (The) Rangers's) make or break year imo.

Really don't think that would be a good move for Celtic. Granted he should be able to win domestic trophies but it's the European Champions League that they are looking to do well in. That's probably the reason that Lennon left, he couldn't see investment so his chances of progressing were non existing. The glorious run two years ago is still fresh on his CV. No Scottish team is likely to better that in the next ten years.

Keane is just an average manager at best, not what Celtic need, he'll walk away if the going gets tough.

PS I'm a lapsed jambo so it doesn't matter a single jot to me, but it does matter to Scottish football as a whole :-)

I didn't think they could go downhill from the Lurgan bigot, but they just might if they appoint Keane. Good player in his day but a pretty average manager at best, always comes across as an aggressive arrogant sod imo. Not sure I'd want a guy who left his nation and team mates in the lurch in charge of my team tbh.

Not a good appointment if true I wouldn't think, although he'd be guaranteed to win a few titles to add to the CV. He is Irish though, so I would imagine it would go down well with certain elements of their support.

A club the size of Celtic should be attempting to get the top managers in, at the very least they would be able to get managers from the 2nd tier if they can't get the elite interested. They appear to be stagnating (treading water at best) to a degree when they could be stretching away imo. An appointment like this (if it happens) would appear to confirm this.

I wonder what Desmonds expectations are for Celtc? ANYONE could win the league with them, most should do significantly better than Lennon did in the cups and no-one really expects them to do anything of note in Europe.

It's kind of a waiting room until you win some trophies then go onto 'bigger' things with a third rate outfit in England.

Quite happy when Walter Smith did it though?

Completely different and you know it. Keanes actions left Ireland a man short, Smith was replaced with no adverse effects. Nice try though. :)

Anyway, can we keep this one on topic without the usual suspects lining up to have a pop at another club, it's players or managers please?

A touch hypocritical imo!

Back OT.

He's actually pretty new to the Management role, so, much as I detest him as a person, 'Average' at this stage is actually pretty good. So, for what Celtic needs/is capable of, he's a reasonable candidate imo.

I'm guilty of responding in kind on other threads, yes, I won't deny that. But any topics going off subject were taken that way by others. Felt I showed a rival club a bit of respect by saying they are big enough to be targeting elite managers as well. So, no, not hypocritical imo.

Anyway, I've made my point and kept on topic as well, so I'll bow out of this one having done so. :)

It's no secret that any semi-competent manager will take Celtic to the league title. Maybe an elite manager could help them in the CL but it would be a challenge on their budget so would such a manager take the job?

Given the above the other thing that, I think, they need is a "box office" attraction. Someone to help reverse the decline in attendances. Roy keane ticks that box, I think. Potentially a good appointment.
