Roy keane to Celtic

It would be like dropping down to the Championship prob League one in terms of quality and competition - there is none for Celtic. Its could be the worlds largest club - still a drop down if its to a league where the title is already sown up before the season starts. The expectancy is to win the title - job done.
Blimey, twice in a day. I agree!

No interest in getting dragged into this debate, but one very small point - the expectation at Celtic is not to win the league, it's to win every single game, every single week and to do so with a bit of style and with an attacking ethos.

Again - it shouldnt be a hard job for them with no competition.

There is plenty of competitive games on a week to week basis, just not no-one else capable of competing over a whole season.

Depends on what is deemed competitve - they lost once in the league all season - maybe teams sit deep and stop the scoring too many but its not a big test of a managers ability.

It would be good for an up and coming manager but would be very surprised if someone from the Prem went there.

Your knowledge of expectancy is glaringly poor.

Pressure wise it's night and day compared to Villa.

At Villa the price of relegation to a club is over £100mil ! Thats pressure. Celtic winning the league is a walk in the park.

The price of staying in the Prem League for clubs is massive - thats why so many managers lose their jobs - sorry but nothing in the EPL compares to it.

I think you mean SPL!

If so, I agree

@Dodger What other expectancy is there? And how have previous Managers performed against those expectations?

As I said, not really looking to become involved in this debate, just correcting your misunderstanding of the Celtic support's expectations.

The expectancy is to reach the group stages of the CL, to do that you must win the league first and if the cups come too then great.

We have an opportunity to move away from all the "Oirish" pish and he's a "Celtic Man" and appoint a man who is not a cliche a bit like a Wim Jansen or a Dr Jo type and it's time to do it.

That's what's needed, it's the only way to really go forward, but, will the board open the biscuit tin and make it happen ?

I know how you love a bit of pedantry so it's actually SPFL. :D

 Some might dispute the 'F' as being false pretences!

Better convince Phil to call it BPL too!

So they failed to achieve 'fan expectations' again last year - and have they achieved that expectation ever? Is that, therefore, a case of team 'failure' or unrealistic expectations?

And if those 'expectations' were achieved, they would not only win the league, but every domestic cup too!

As for Keane going to Villa, rather than Celtic; is that a downward step from where he is now? Or does it mean a more active equivalent role? I suspect he tactically withdrew from the Celtic position rather than be passed over.

I think most pundits would have expected Celtic to win the league, both cups and perhaps make the CL last 16.
One out of four is looked on as a disappointing season.

If he becomes #2 at Villa he can continue as Irish #2 and also still pick up some media work. That wouldn't be an option if he became Celtic manager.

Only the ones who have had a few too many - Celtic do very well to get into the group stages and then very well to get into the Europa. Getting into the Last 16 would be fantastic

Cups always have one off results and hard to expect teams to win them.

personally am glad that its not going to be keane -his approach seems to be mainly stick rather than carrot, and i don't see how that approach can last long term.

i can understand how celtic might be a draw to lambert, however, seeing as villa are a club who are seemingly directionless and limping towards the championship. if lambert is still in a job at villa by christmas i'd be surprised, and i think he'd be surprised as well. villa just doesn't seem to be a club that would be particularly fun to be at, especially when the fans are slowly starting to turn against you.

that said i don't think that lambert would willingly jump, when his payoff is just around the corner. i'd be perfectly happy with any of clarke, coyle or mackay. getting a celtic team to perform with credit in the champions league might add something to their cv's that they would struggle to find in england.
