18 greens in regulation, 30 putts. -7
Westwood and Kaymer hit only 11/12 GIR yet had less putts but 4 shots worse.

There was a debate that Rorys putting was weak, I think this certainly tells a story that his iron pay is second to none, noone is going to consistently hit 25-27 putts when their GIR stats are on fire.
Moral of the story? if you want to be known for putter stats, miss the greens and learn to chip and hole 1 footers. If you want to win silverware, everything else has to work too.

120th in GIR on the US PGA Tour last year with 66.24% (and 128th in putting stats)

Easy to prove and disprove most arguments with stats lol. That said I do fall into the camp which has him as a great iron player and a badish putter, just doesnt hole enough from 10-15 feet for me

I watched him this morning,in fact he made me late for graft,and he could easily have shot 62.The bit that always impresses me is the accuracy AND length of his big dog play.

I agree. What's this his 3rd full season on tour. Already a winner on both sides of the Atlantic and a world star. Once he has an older head on thos young shoulders in terms of reigning back when necessary he'll be unstoppable at times

The thing i like about rorys score today was, everyone was going on yesterday about tiger, westwood and kaymer shootout for number one and then day one rory shoots 65 and it almost like hello dont rule me out for your number one spot because quite frankly i will take all 3 of you.

Because the rest of his game is that good it is an area he needs to work on if he's to become world no.1(and I think he will be no.1).Could've been 2 better today if he'd made a couple inside 10ft coming in.
