Rory

Hi,
Not for rory he is 2 over for the back nine it looks like Paddy might do him a favour by winning it bur there is a long way to go.
Mike

I hate to say this about Rory but I can see a touch of Garcia about him. A fantastic player, solid driver, probably a better iron player than Garcia, good touch, however I think his putting is very suspect!

Hopefully its just youth and inexperience that makes him rush everything at the moment on the greens, however I have a question mark over his ability to putt, especially under pressure!

Is there an echo in here????????

I did say not to get carried away with the Rory Mc hype!!!!
Don't get me wrong he's a good, good player but the next TW he aint!!!!!!

Hes the next best thing there is no other up and comming golfers near him!!!

Fellas, he equalled westwood this round, what negativity is there in that? he is two shots behind him, all he needs to do is finish in the vacinity of westwood if not win it himself to remain no.1.
If this is faultering the way to No.1, watchout for the years he actually plays well eh!

I dont think anyone has said hes a poor player or that they dont want him to win. Infact I think hes an awesome player however I have concerns about his ability to putt under pressure. I also hope this is just down to inexperience.

To be perfectly honest I would rather Rory won than Westwood but when the dust settles I couldnt care who wins the Dubai thingy, as I think playing for that sort of prize money is disgusting considering the amount of poverty and worthwhile charities, however thats another arguement.

I didnt mean it to come across as anyone slating him, he hasnt won enough this year, Id bet he will concede that himself.
What I was trying to say is that he hasnt shone just as
much as I personally wanted him to, yet he is still no.1 at the moment. Imagine when he does get everything together, Im no coach but will be asking michael bannon tomorrow at the club if his no nonsense stand up and hit it putting approach is actually doing his game any good.

$7.5m between the top 15 in dubai is just shocking. The reward should be in the current prize money and primarily in the glory. Ben Hogan et al never played for fortunes, they were there for the adulation and sense of achievement.

Followed him at the Dunhill Links on the monday and the kid is a superb ball striker but when it comes to putting he always throws in a poor round which might be tomorrow then this leaves himself to much to do on the sunday.
What we have to remember is that he's still a kid, if i had a fraction of his talent i'd be happy, i've seen some of his scorecards when he was an amateur in some of the clubs in Ireland and its scary how good he is , i mean a 61 round Royal Portrush is amazing.

I'm with thecraw on this one. Rory is magic, but even he knows and admits (on Twitter) that his putting is letting him down. He's working on it and I think he'll find what he's looking for. After that he could be unbeatable. In the last two weeks he has had blistering final rounds and that must be doing his confidence a huge amount of good. Roll on Sunday.

As to whether he'll be the next TW (if such a thing is possible), we'll know a lot more by the end of next year. If he wins a few events...

I think the problem is that every up and coming golfer is compared to Tiger and his achievements. Tiger is a one off - the like of which will probably never be seen again. So, when it comes to our boys I think we all need a little bit of patience. McIlroy will come good - he'll win tournaments, probably some majors. How old was Harrington when he won his first major?? Certainly not 20. Time gentleman please.. :)
Westwood, in my humble opinion, won't win a major. For no other reason than I don't think he's got the all round game.
With regards winning a major - I'm not too sure it's easy to predict. People talk about this player winning and that player being in contention - who predicted YE Yang winning a major this year?? :o

I thinkeven the top players have a chink. With Westwood its his chipping, Woods can be susceptible with a driver and with Rory it looks like his putting is the only weakness. I think to some degree he'll learn as he gets more experience. I'm already on record as wanting a Westwood OOM win this season to show for his consistancy if not his ability to shut events out. Rory's time will come again and again. I'd love to see a Woods v McIlroy shoot out in the RC singles next year as I think Tiger will be sweating big time especially given his poor RC record.

I get no pleasure from saying "i told you so" but......."i told you so"!!!!

Rory Mc has a long way to go yet, to put the hype into perspective, he has now been a professional for 2 years, he's won 1 tournament, he's been second around 4-5 times and lost a couple of play-offs.
He has a long, long journey ahead of him if he's to reach the goal of world number 1.

I'm not saying he won't do it, because he's young enough to still be in contention when Woods finally hangs up his spikes, what i am saying is that i'm bored reading misinformed opinion in our rubbish press (daily papers not golf mags) about Rory v Tiger blah blah blah......he's miles behind Woods and in my opinion will not dislodge him as world number 1, Woods will retire either through injury or because he's had/done enough, then Rory may well get his hands on the world number one spot.

Oh and why has nobody mentioned his little tantrum yesterday which resulted in him putting a wedge through an advertising hoarding in temper......if that had been woods it would have been disgraceful behaviour, not "entirely understandable" as that prat Roe said on golf night!

Yawn....read my opinions on his 'tantrum' in Lee W thread...he twated his club in anger so what??Not sure anyone on here ever said he was going to knock the great man off his perch.
