Kinda torn on my opinion, if he’s on baby making duties at the end of the season then it sounds completely sensible, if a little over cautious (the odds of being a victim of violent crime in the peaceful town of Chaska are way shorter than any risk I’ve seen reported for Zika)

Although now that he’s said “I’ve come to realise that my health and my family’s health comes before anything else” that's put paid to any more trips to, dengue fever hotspot, Barbados where he went a couple of months back with the wife-to-be

The reason athletes havent pulled out is because this is the pinnacle of their sport and its worth the risk to them. Its not worth the risk to Rory so why take it?

Let's get this virus in perspective.

The symptoms last for up to 7 days, and are similar to having a cold. Am sure Rory has had a cold before and has been able to cope with it.

The likelihood of catching it - very unlikely - scientists predict one or two cases as a maximum, given the number of athletes and spectators planning to go to Rio.

The risk - the virus is only active for a few weeks. Public health advice is to use contraceptives for 8 weeks if you have been unlucky enough to catch it. I don't know if Rory has used a condom before, but I'm sure he could get the hang of it.

My first impression when hearing the news was that he doesn't fancy it, isn't that bothered and has been given a plausible excuse for not going. I'd rather he just said he didn't want to compete and had other priorities.

I have said all along they have missed the chance to create a really top ranked amatuer event at the Olympics. Golf at the Olympics will never be as important to today's top professionals as the Majors and the Olympics is supposed to be the pinnacle of your sport, with golf it will never be that.
