Mariner, who touted him as a world beater?

Let's see, off the top of my head I can name 4 players from the past that would get into International teams:

Gascoine - Shearer - Scholes - Sheringham.

Agreed, work rate is a given for all players, but my point was that over recent years not everybody has had the same desire and work rate that Rooney has always showed.

I would rather talk about the present and the future with England players. And from what I saw on Wednesday night against Scotland, there is certainly improvement and hope for the future.

I think out of them four. Scholes maybe would get into the top teams of the last 6 years. Spain/Germany. Don't think the others would. Gazza not consistent enough, shearer not the right style for spain at least and shearing ham not the goals.
