RIP Seve :(

I was never into golf growing up so never saw him play live or on TV, the only long footage I have seen of him playing has been on the Shells Wonderful World of golf that sky have been repeating. I love all the stories, Faldo is holding back the tears on sky now and telling some cracking stories. I remember the interview Allis did at his home.... he nicked his green jacket from Augusta and when they asked him for it back, he told them to come and get it . . . . its still in his rophy cabinet ;)

RIP Seve

Such sad news.

The only Open i went to was in 1988 at Lytham, which Seve won. A golf course is a large place, but when Seve was in his pomp, you could tell where he was on the course, from the huge crowd that followed him, and the atmosphere they generated.

You wanted him to hit a wayward shot, just so you could see his great powers of recovery. He had great charisma, and made the game so exciting, even to non players.

One of my favourite memories, was on the 72nd hole at Birkdale in 1976, when as a 19 year old he needed a birdie four to tie Jack Nicklaus for second. He was left of the green in two, with two bunkers between him and the flag. There seemed to be no shot, but he chipped over a mound, between the bunkers to four feet. Johnny Miller who won the championship, putted up close, but rather than mark, and wait to putt out last as is customary, holed out to leave Seve with the honour of holing the last putt of the Open championship. Of course Seve holed the birdie putt, and a new golfing star was born.

Thanks for the memories Seve.

Sad loss.
seve said don't feel sorry for him, he had lived life to the full. Perhaps it's best to remember the happy times with his strut walkin after a well struck ball. I got really close at Lytham in 88, he was a character and that is the seve I will remember not the shadow of a man that we last saw.

Now go and give god that short game lesson.

Such a sad, sad day......thanks for all the great memories Seve.... they will live with us forever.

You inspired millions of people to take up this great game of ours, and you embodied everything that is good about it.....a true gent.

RIP....gone but never forgotten.

Very sad indeed. I took up Golf because of Seve and his performances, on course antics, style and personality, not to mention his Ryder Cup contributions.
What a star he was. :)

The amazing tribute is that so many golfers around the world are writing tributes - probably one of the most loved sportsmen in history.

Spanish football matches are also holding pre-kick off ceremonies to celebrate his life.

A terrrible loss to the sport. i am too young to remember his greatness on the course but am old enough to know of his greatness off it.

A true gentleman. and there are not many of them :(

Whenever I went to the Open it was always to watch Seve, because he could hit shots like an 18 handicapper off the tee but follow it with a shot from the trees/rough/bunkers that nobody else in the world could play. I had a tear in my eye this morning when I found out. RIP Seve, you are sadly missed.

R.I.P Seve.

He simply WAS golf. He encapsulates everything that's great and good about our sport.

True gentleman.

You'll be sorely missed.

Seve, muchas gracias por mostrarnos cómo este juego se debe jugar.
Descanse en paz
