Just heard someone from Wentworth telling a story of when Seve was leading the PGA on the 18th. A kid was making some noise behind him on the tee, so Seve stopped walked over and asked the kid if he was nervous. "Yes" said the kid, "So am I" said Seve. No scowl, no strop, just a smile and a day I bet that kid has never forgotten. True gentleman and class act.
a sad, sad, day.
truly the loss of one of, not just golf's, but all sports true icons.
the inspiration for countless, genius, magician and entertainer. to me he represented the human face of golf at a time when others were so remote.
One day we will crack this disease. It won't be a day too soon. Sorry for the blatant plug but having lost my wife to cancer a little over a month ago aged just 48, I really don't care. The ends will hopefully one day justify the means. Please consider giving what you can if you don't already. Thanks.
Deeply deeply saddened to wake up to this News today.Still currently losing to he battle to hold back the tears at the loss of My Golfing Hero
Didnt think i would be as upset as i am at the sad loss of one of the all time sporting greats, not just Golf, a man who inspired so many me included, made the game more interesting by playing with his heart & passion on show.
He with his Charisma brought the game to such a wider audience & reinvigorated the game over here to such an extent the European tour & its golfers strength remains to this day
Without him there wouldn't be anywhere near as many golf courses or Golfers in Europe as there are
The man who gave us so many memorable moments whether it was from the Ryder cup, or the remarkable & unbelievable shots he conjured up recovering from places on the course no one had ever been, the fantastic short game that made me put so many hours in on the practice ground trying to emulate Or simply "that putt" from 1984 & the wonderful reaction a truly iconic moment.
For me personally i'll always remember him with me as an awe struck teenager at Wentworth after he blocked a drive down right the ball landing right next to me and him coming up to me giving me a little smile & nod and saying "it almost hit you yes?"
