Such a sad loss and so young at only 40. Responsible for some of the most destructive running I have seen and changed the whole thinking of what made a winger. Modern rugby is still based on the impact he made. RIP

Can't believe it. Didn't know he was poorly. The bloke was one of those really big sports legends when I was growing up. As a northerner he was pretty much the only Union player I'd ever heard of as a kid.

Got to see him play at a help for heroes game at Twickenham years ago.

Genuinley shocked and sad. RIP Jonah

Very sad news :(

Was a true legend of the sport and I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon in his company

Gentle giant who changed rugby

RIP 😢

Very sad.

Had the pleasure of watching him play once at Murrayfield in 99 WC against Scotland, seemed like a gentle giant, very humble.

For me, it was his obvious speed and power, but even more so how light on his feet he was, able to take a partial hit and keep his balance and remain driving forward with both power and grace. Able to angle his lower body away from would be tacklers, they had no chance of getting has ankles, so had to try and go high, and with someone at 6,4" and nigh on 20 stone it was never going to go well. Just in awe of this video of some of his best impacts both attacking and defending, let us not forget he was a brutal tackler too!! Taken far too soon and from everyone i have read from in the press this morning, a true Gent. He genuinely redefined modern attacking rugby.

Here is a great vid:

Over the last week or so I have seen two fantastic inspirational videos of people from NZ posted on this forum. Don't know what they make them from down there but fantastic.

well posted Rooter.
