RIP Graham Taylor

The first England manager I remember getting undue stick was Bobby Robson, but with GT they took it to another level, and possibly not even "bettered" since. They really went after him, which was shocking.

I remember watching Watford on Midweek sports night special (possibly in the UEFA cup) and what a dream to go from the old fourth to Europe, what a journey. Never a great fan of their football at the time, but to fair with Barnes and Blissett they also played some lovely stuff on the ground also.

RIP Watford's greatest servant.

Great childhood memories. I remember my Dad and I just making it in time for the match v FC Kaiserslautern, on a school night. It was the second leg, after losing the first leg 3-1. We were right by the tunnel. Won the game 3-0. :D

Must have been great.

Did your scarf touch both feet, for some reason Watford fans always seemed to have 8 foot long scarves. :D

A true gentleman of English football. His achievements at club level were exceptional. At international level luck transpired against him. Many better managers have failed with England with better players since.

RIP from a Reading fan.

Good manager with a great record.
RIP

I would be willing to bet a few sheckles that some on this forum would have been calling for his head on a plate when he was England manager though.:o

DfT, to be fair he was not a good England manager. He was however a very good club manager, a very good radio summariser and by all accounts a thoroughly decent and well liked bloke. It is allowed.

That's because whilst he was very good as a small club manager and doing very well with limit resources he was shocking as England manager - he was the first in a long line of them. The stick he got from the red top rags was disgusting though

He was superb for Watford

Did England really have the depth of talent back then, and easy to look back in hindsight. We should have qualified for the 94 WC though

You are right.
For some reason I thought he had a good England record, just checked and he didn't.
I think I confused him with Maclaren
